good afternoon all. Well I have just embarked out on my new hobby, I'm hoping to restore and run a little old a35, he is of the 1957 vintage making him nearly 60 years old. I know it's not aircraft related but I'm hoping it will generate some interest from the older members of this forum. I will...

A good idea Squirrell. I'd forgotten that method .Yep David and you could plug weld both as you seem to have the hang of that. Then seam weld in short stitches working from either end to avoid distortion then grind back to flush.

Talking of old(ish) vehicles in 1971(?) I was the proud owner of a 1966 Lotus 7 with a Cosworth modified (gas flowed head, new cam and two twin 40 DCOE Webers) 1500 cc 'Kent' engine. [attachment] I drove it for 3 years, summer only as I used a Mk2 Ford Cortina in the winter and sold it for what I paid...

Evening chaps, just signed up, this looks like an interesting forum. I'm a single-channel enthusiast, well, I like any radio-nostalgia really. I fly mostly S/C 'on the button' with several Sharkfaces, Vic Smeeds Tomboy Senior & Poppet, and a Dick Stouffer Simplex. Just building a Les Rudd Go-Jet for...

As you might have guessed my Dad as a hobby made mostly working models all his life. I have it on good authority that he built a toy boat steam plant at the tender age of 11 and a 2 stroke IC (it did not work) at 13! When living in London a local boat club raced tethered hydroplanes. The 15 and 30cc...

[attachment] Following the steam turbines my Dad made a model gas turbine in 1956! Unfortunately I only have pictures of it as he gave it away. For practical reasons he used a centrifugal compressor 'back to back' with an inward flow radial turbine. This meant they could be 'overhung' from the...

On completing the 5cc my Dad said he wanted to build a small multi cylinder IC engine. To do this he realised he would need both a milling machine and the means to make the special cutters that would be required.so the start on the new engine was delayed by nearly 20 years! His idea was to build a...

As some of you may know my Dad was a serious model engineer and seemed to specialise in making things as small as possible. When the world endurance record for RC planes was broken in the mid 1950s at 12(?) hrs and described in the Aero modeller it used a conventional 2 stroke glow running on 50/50...

"I wanna tell you a story" - who catch phrase was that? My Dad was too young for the first war and too old for front line in the second however as a qualified engineer he was conscripted into the Royal Engineers in 1940 where his mathematical abilities meant he got involved in the problems of how...

About four years ago I took a free membership on Ancestry.com to try and see where my family had come from, luckily I found out that somebody had already prepared a family tree and had traced my father's line back to the 1670's when they were in East Sussex, my grandfather I never knew on either...

I was cleaning the loft out the other day and found the plans to the Leicester Model Centre 'Gnatty', first plane I ever built and learnt to fly on, I think this was the best trainer that was ever designed. Brings back memories of the '70's'.

Phil, I'll shortly be investing a bit of cash into the forum & I was wondering if you'd be interested in doing an article or review on a trad' build model & possibly make it single channel. We can't afford a payment for this ..... but you do get to keep the model & all accessories. Pol.

This was my introduction to CL and Cox engines - 1960. I was looking for something else and found these [attachment] And they are both still half full. The 1/2 pint tin on the left dates from my Mills 75 days so must be at least 35 years old. The tin on the right 1/4 litre is a bit newer. I doubt much of the ether is left!
