- Wind turbines. I'm a big fan.
As this is my first go I will more than likely need a bit of guidance from the experienced guys, hoping to learn a lot from this.
I have a small bundle of various size balsa sheet so will start cutting out the wing and tailplane ribs. I plan to trace the rib pattern cut it out then make a template to make all the ribs. This seems like a fairly cheap and accurate way, unless anyone has a better idea?

Dean - as it's a plank wing all the ribs will be the same size - make 2 identical templates out of thin ply - cut some blanks - put the templates at either end and hold it all together with a couple of thin long bolts - then you can plane - if you don't have a balsa plane it's a bloody useful tool - or failing that sand all the ribs to shape as a block. Advantage - you don't have to accurately and individually cut dozens of ribs out and the ribs will all be exactly the same. If you are not sure what I'm on about let us know - I'm sure Tony or I can post a couple of illustrative photos.

I was going to cut out each rib!
I have got a balsa plane I love using it and leaving curly balsa mess everywhere

Take it slowly, and read and understand the instructions before you cut and glue. Try dry-fitting (assemble without glue, to see how it goes together) to make sure you have it all in the right order!
if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Well I have done a little bit tonight I have cut from ply 2 blanks as has been suggested and then I have roughly cut out some of the wing ribs ready to be sanded all together.

The ribs clamped together and sanded to shape just in the process of doing the cut outs for the front and rear spars.

Ribs all sanded to shape and spar cut outs cut out!
And something that looks wing shaped, this is just dry fitted.
I know this is no where near as complicated or fancy as anything like what Tony, Grumpy etc build but I am really chuffed with how good all the bits are fitting together and the fact I made the bits!!
Thanks for all the advice so far.
