Building from plans

I am really enjoying building just as much as the flying, I still have the spitfire to finish then i will start on my Flair Puppeteer.
I have been really inspired, by some of the fantastic creations on this forum, to have a go at a plan build.
I have plans for a John Carpenter 80" Stuka but this will wait until I have lots more experience.
I see from Modelflying forum that in the Autumn RCM&E special Tony Nijhuis is doing plans for a 68" AT-6 for a .91 FS would this be a good start considering the magazine will have details of the build in it and I would imagine plenty of info on the forum about the build too.

Or should I start with something vintage like Grumpys powerhouse he built or the senior Telemaster he is building?

if its a first build from plans an old timer or simple high winger might be best.

scale models are much more demanding to build.
something quick and simple would be best to start off with.

Thanks for that offer Mike How would a Large plan be printed out and what would be the cost of you doing one for me?

A big head??? who me??? Damn it, why can't I fit through this door way??? Seriously though Dean something like the powerhouse - or possibly a bit smaller - it's 84" wingspan would be a good start for you. I'd suggest you have a look at a Senior Playboy or a Lanzo Bomber. Both around the 6 foot wingspan size and both very stable flyers. As old timers they are basically RC assisted free flight models - that is - 3 channels (rudder, elevator and throttle if you are using an IC engine) and easy to fly. You can use a 25 up to a 60 size motor in either and I hate to admit this but both models are suitable to convert to electric power as well. The one caution here is that if you go to the larger more powerful IC motors you will have a rocket on your hands.

On Tuesday one of the old boys had a Ben Buckle plan built Majestic Major 88" span it looked lovely just floating round the sky so I think I would like something like that.
Oh and it will have one of those lovely dirty smelly engines on the front mmmmmmmmmmm

i got the plans for an 84" keil kraft ladybird, 3 channel jobby.

that would look nice floating around with an electric motor in the front.

i think that will be next after the Lanc and viscount.

Would buying a plan pack be any easier?
I still want to lose my plan building virginity to an old timer
After that would something more scale like be an easier plan build if i bought a cnc cut pack?

only in that the hard bits are all cut out ready.
you still have to read the plan and cut lots of sheet.

I was looking at Alex Whittakers Jitterbug from April 2011 RCM&E it is a 62" span sport model that is supposed to be a good first plan build, Then today I went out and bought this months RCM&E and I quite fancy having a go at the Sandow that Peter Miller has scaled up, It is a 3ch vintage type with a built up fuselage and constant chord wings.



Does this look ok for a first go?
I promise I will stop pestering you all about this then!!!!!!!!!!
