Radio Queen

Ever since I saw Stephens I wanted one, so here we go.


First job is to pin the plan to a building board, and then use some plastic sheet to protect the plan. I've seen food wrap recommended but I can't get on with it. I use a thicker plastic, comes in 2M rolls for covering school exercise books.
Always start with the fuselage sides, it gives you confidence! Do not make the mistake of taking the first side off to build the second side! They'll be different if you do, build the second side on top of the first. This ensures they'll be both the same, but if you use cyanoacrylates (super glue) you must place a piece of plastic between the two halves! Otherwise you'll never get them apart! Ask me how I know! I use Aliphatic glue, it doesn't 'wick' too well so you can split the two halves later.

Yup, he used it to make the first cross Channel flight.

I see you pulled another 'allnighter' Phil! This was due to be the original FPV ship, then the I had to take time out to do some FPV demos for the Rhino people. That never happened when they saw what the price was going to be! Then, in a fit of idiocy, I managed to connect a 3s Lipo to the 3.3volt line of the FPV Tx and GPS! Don't ask, it's easy, I was too tight to buy the cables that Simon Dale supplies!
Anyway, short answer is yes!

When you're ready, lift the unseparated halves off the board.


Now use a sanding block to make the outer surfaces absolutely identical.

I keep getting 'side tracked'! Because it's a 'beginners' build I keep realising that I'm using words and techniques that are not referenced elsewhere in the site, so I have to go off and do that!


I find this is the easiest way to do the splitting, but be careful, the blade is designed to break off, so don't apply too much pressure!

Next, make the main formers, note how I've re-marked the main former that hold the engine bearers, I didn't want to be locked into one size/type of engine, so I've moved the bearers out 28mm and down 3mm. This is so I can use a piece of aluminium to mount different motors and set different side thrusts.



Now you can start fitting the formers to the main box structure.
