These will be ideas for myself to pursue and try to create.

A few ideas i had where.....
Download Area What would be available here?

Classifieds (Ebay style selling system)

Per user Blogs.

Your thoughts? Are there any toys you would like built into the website.......

I've just mentioned an idea to GB before I read this. I came out to post it.

I thought of making a thread where model shops can advertise any special offers & themselves free of charge.

This will enable members to spot a good deal and the shops get a free advert without all the flashing images. :woohoo:

Can we have some pro's & con's about this idea please. ....other suggestions welcome.

Phil.

Hi Phil
I think your suggestion about the model shops a touch of brilliance, I only have one resevation and that is how many do we let in? Any model shop worth their salt would break their neck to get on F.O.C. and i am worried that we would be swampped. Have you or Mike any ideas of how to limit the input?
On the RCM&E site if a reply to a post is sent to a member by e-mail there is a section which says" Read this thread on line" I feel this is very handy for the member and wondered if it could be used here. What do others think?

I think the colours are brilliant and should remain, in fact at the moment I cant find anthing that Mike is involved in that I can find fault with, and that is a first. Believe you me if I do find fault you will know LOL

This is the sort of feedback we need Garry, which is why I asked you to be admin. (Garry is on compassionate leave at the moment):(

We could restrict them to say 1 post in every 20 to give them all a chance....and special offers only.
They'd still be advertising themselves free of charge and it would then be in their interests to give out this website address.
Members would also be able to find an instant list of dealers and see what offers were available to date.....if they've got money.

As with the RCM&E site....when you make a post there's a box that you can tick that says "Subscribe to this thread" .... if you do this you'll get an e-mail when someone replies.....it has a link to the thread.

Keep the comments coming

There is a further thought on the model shops. Get them established and a larger membership, then as everyone likes a competition request the shops who are getting free advertising for a prize or two for the weekly/monthly comp. Once again they will prob bite your hand off as it beats paying for advertising
This seems to work very well on RCM&E and they have to pay for their advertising and are still willing to put up prizes FOC

Do we have a slight prob with Google?
If you put RCM&E up it will direct you to their site. Put Modelchat up and it puts up dateing services. Fine if you want that but it wont give us many new members. The only way I have found to get on is to put the full web address up. I think we want the site to be known as Modelchat and that was the name I PM ed to Ken Anderson so maybe this is why he has not been on as he doesnt know the web address. He is an asset to any forum

Google didn't know untill yesterday that the website even existed.
I submitted it
A bot crawl of the website has been scheduled. A few things had to be in place before we could submit ourselves.

One of the most useful features I could suggest is a button in the header menu saying something like "Replies to You". When you press it you should see a page of threads in which you have posted and someone has subsequently replied, in date order with the most recent highest up.

This takes all the hassle out of finding threads which you have participated in, something I know some forum users struggle with (ie. they post then miss the replies to their post). I know you have a subscribe feature for tracking threads, but I think a button on the header menu makes things even easier.

Another thought, is there a way to change the subscription default so I can choose not to subscribe to threads by default? At present the "subscribe to this thread" tickbox is always ticked unless I untick it. Personally I'd like to not subscribe to any threads as I could do without my email inbox filling up, so a way to prevent this happening by default would be handy.

Default subscription is now set to No.
Thank you for pointing that out.
Users but now check the box "subscribe" below the text field when replying to subscribe to a thread.

I've been asked by Tony about file size limit for avatars...there's none mentioned.
Does size count? :P

Is it possible for members to have their own photo album on the site?

ie. Go to their profile and a link will take you to their picture gallery.
