I shouldn't be doing this! was created by Quorneng
Having scrapped the badly damaged Cessan O-2 fuselage, booms and tail but retained all the electrics I was left with its undamaged outer wing panels. Each is 19" long (485 mm).

Nicely tapered with a neat working aileron set up with mechanical differential.
Now what if the panels were joined?
With just one of the Cessna's motors coupled with a 'minimum' low wing fuselage it would have the same sort of wing and power loading as the Cessna (unlimited vertical!) but would be considerably more manoeuvrable. :)

And I rather like the all black scheme which, contrary to expectation, stands out rather well.

Against a typical UK sky, blues and whites are no good, they are nearly invisible, unless you can fly under a cloud, and get a decent silhouette.
Black, Yellow and Orange stand out well in most light levels.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

We're on a go-slow - - 17 seconds between pressing 'submit' and it going!
Then I got this -
Internal Server Error

The wing joined with a stout (2 mm very hard balsa) dihedral brace.

More as an exercise than anything else the ailerons are now retained by printed hinges rather than the original tape. After 4 years tape either sticks for ever or starts to peel, which it had. ;)
I think I will use a 3/4 size Ballerina fuselage (I already have the plans printed out that I used for the Petiterina) but with square cut tail feathers to match the wing thus tuning it into a "sort of" Mustang!

A start on the 3/4 Depron Ballerina fuselage - in Depron of course!

The printed motor bulkhead and standoff holding the front Emax 2822 salvaged from the Cessa.

The big holes are to let cooling air through.
The cone of the motor stand off is hollow.

The whole bulkhead weighs just 4.6 g :) but takes 43 minutes to print and took 3 attempts to get it exactly right!

I wonder what that would be the price you would have to charge to produce a one off ?

To be fair it would depend on how well it was designed in the first place. Printing is pretty accurate (0.01 mm) at repeating something but to create a specific dimension to that level of accuracy requires some trial and error.

As far as I can tell a dimension in say CURA is taken to be the centre line of the printing bead which not only makes a difference between an inside and outside dimension but also the bead width selected. When you get down to really close tolerances even the thickness of each print layer makes a difference as it effects how much the basically circular bead is 'squashed' out by the nozzle as it is laid down.

If you want something printed to be a really close fit to something else then you just have to print it to what you think is the right dimension, check the fit, 'guess' the required degree of adjustment and reprint. Repeat until you happy with it!

The actual cost of the print is trivial. The final cost simply depends on how much your time is worth.
For a one to one advice session my solicitor charges £350 per hour!:woohoo:

The 3/4 sze Ballerina (mod) fuselage continues.
The motor and ESC fitted.

If you look carefully you can see the micro elevator servo glued in right at the tail.

So far everything apart from the Depron and UHU POR have been recycled from the Cessna O-2.
I wont be using its rx though as it used an early Orange 2.4 rx with a single antenna which I suspect is really only a "park fly" so it will use a Corona 'full range' 35 meg micro 6ch rx.

Slow progress as the Warrington Homebase is closing down so everything is being sold off at silly prices which is just the excuse my daughter needs to buy loads of floor tiles and wall paper followed by a phone call "Have you got a pasting table, long tape measure, set square and could you help with the wall paper?" That was Saturday gone!

Anyway the tiny Corona 35 meg 4ch is in, connected to the ESC and the motor tested.

As well as some nose planking.

Tail plane and fin next as that will establish roughly where the battery needs to go.

More delays as I help No2 son to fit avast set of huge 20 ft long "scaffold plank" shelves in his room. Each plank has had to have been planed and sanded all over, guess whose tools he used to do that! Then cut to fit with my circular saw! Each shelf, there are 3, has 6 "London" brackets requiring at total of 54 holes to be drilled in the brick wall, my drill and bit again. He may be a wiz at computers but using power hand tools? The quote from the Battle of Britain film about the abilities of monkeys springs to mind! :woohoo:
So only a bit more done.

Elevators still under construction.
Note the printed spinner.;)

Your lad sounds rather like mine - again a whiz with 'degrees' on computers, but a couple of years ago, when his room light went off, he took the bulb out and stuck his fingers in the socket to make sure the springy bits were ok. [badass] :woohoo:
