Tx replacement batteries...

You can charge a "Lithium" battery from any state of charge as long as it is above the 3V/cell minimum.
They do not suffer from any "memory" characteristics. The only thing they do not like is being left at a full charge for a long time (many weeks) as some of the chemicals within start to deteriorate. You simply bring forward what will happen naturally with extended use.
In a Tx application the load is so small you will hardly notice any fall in battery performance.
The 2 year old 3s LiPo in my Futaba runs it for months at a time. It has likely lost a bit of capacity by now so it only lasts for 2 months of flying instead of 3!

Cheers. It's dark now, so I'll have a go at the LiFe thing if the new connectors turn up, then I can have a bash at charging it.
Thanks again.

Matching electrical connectors is always an issue, until you know, but to be fair it is not all 'sweetness and light' with diesels.
The thread of the compression screw on the various types of Mills 75 for example?
Male and female of the 'red' JST?
It depends who you are talking to but officially, according to the IEEE, it is the pins not the body that determine the male gender.

Paul, is that what they use on a matchlock pistol these days?
All very interesting chaps, but not answering my male/female JST connector problem.

Thanks for your help gents. Fingers crossed I've ordered right this time. Anyone want some tiddler connectors, send me a stamp and they're yours. I'm sure I'll never use em.

I can quite understand how Spektrum have just introduced the DXS with no screen at all! Is that a back-to-basics effort, I wonder, for those who miss the Skyleaders and Challengers of yore?

I'd have called that the male! (cos it's got the bits that poke in, not the ones that get poked into!!!) [badass]

if you look at the photo above, I found a lead with the lower fitting on it and a Deans on tother end. I already had a Deans to barrel plugs lead which came with the charger, so i was able to plug in the charger, then go deans to Deans which had the thing above on tother end and then that to the servo plug on the LiFe battery pack. Complicated, but, with Simon's excellent instructions, my chum's Klevafone and my dexterity with the charger (HA!) we seem to have got there. Whilst I still wouldn't dream of spending 40 quid a month on a 'phone, I'm glad chum did!
Thanks to everyone concerned.
BTW, for a model boater like me, it's very difficult talking about Deans connectors as there's a very well known company called Deans Marine. I could never understand why they'd got into electrical stuff<G>
