BMFA Classified Adds Hacked ???

It would seem that the classified adds section has been hacked, and it may not be safe to either buy or sell on this site until it has been officially cleared . Admin has been advised by email

Nick Brotherton , who is a regular member on there has emailed me about it . It doesnt look like the same site

Its actually worse than that, if you use the contact member and get a reply, you get all sorts of weird messages with the reply

Unfortunately this is very true, but as this a site I use very frequently , it is so annoying when some idiot causes it to have to be taken off line, because they have nothing better to do . If they cant rule it they break it . So sad

As a further update to this topic, there is a discussion on RCME, and some posters have advised not to even attempt to log on to the BMFA Classified section. Apparently the "hackers" could have left things on there that could corrupt your comp???? All beyond me, but maybe Mike could comment on this .

Actually Garry it is worse than that.

The hacker COULD have put malware in the page. However if it was me and I wanted to be malicous, i would have inserted code that sent me your login details as soon as you sign in.
Then with all the accounts they have access to, run a load of junk posts causing silly amounts of traffic.

I don't know if BMFA run regular backups, i don't know if your user details are encrypted there and i don't know how much the system was compromised. I would say its best to stay well away for a little while.

if you have logged on and use the same password elsewhere like on here for example. I would advise you change your passwords in those places!!

As an aside, it is very comforting to have such a knowledgeable person as Mlke, to advise us on such probs

Seems this git makes a habit of it, he has hit a bell ringers site, of all things, perhaps this will make the ones on the bmfa hold their email addys back, as they are instructed too, i just hope all the other stuff you have to use to register arecsafe behind a nice big wall,
