Permission to speak?
Another flight video from Swinderby the other day when Sir Gary and Duke Phil ran into us, or we ran into them...ah whatever! This was my 1st flight of the day. Going with my DC 3 as a prelude to flying the Lancaster. The DC 3 features on my 1st you tube video. Then it was powered by 2 x 400 motors and a 50A esc. I got through about 3 x 400 motors, each failing in flight nearly giving me heart failure! I decided to convert the aeroplane to brushless sometime ago, but had never got around to filming it. This seemed like an ideal opportunity as I've just given her a bit of a refurbish, reworking the nacelles ( the originals smashed in a crash at Strubby many moons since ), a fresh battery hatch which fitted more snugly without protruding from the fuselage, some filling, sanding & silver paint on the fuse, recovering and painting the wingtips. Everything seemed lovely... what could possibly go wrong?

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

One thing springs to mind, disregarding the loose motor for a moment - the model is silver, and you say it was painted - silver paint carries a lot of metallic particles, so if you are using 2.4 Gigs, you HAVE to have the rx antennas outside the fuz, or the paint can block the signals. The same applies to ali cowls, carbon fibre, etc.

... I went 2.4G within 3 months of Futaba releasing the 6EX on 2.4G... had sooooo many problems with 35MHz... this DC 3 was the first aeroplane I fitted with a 2.4G receiver. It has flown well over 100 times. In all the time I've been converted to 2.4G I have never had the merest suspicion of glitches or signal loss. I fly FPV, my receiver is inside the fuselage of an aircraft which I fly up to 1.5 km away.... never had a problem with loss of control or experienced radio glitches. I can't speak for JR, Spectrum, HK , Sanyo though.. stick with the best.

Couldnt agree more Ian about the 2.4 G gear I came back to the hobby 7 yrs ago after a 15 yrs lay off, bought Spekky and also have never experianced a glitch or any loss of signal, and i fly twice a week all year round. Started with DX 6i and now use a DX 7. I am afraid most crashes are either pilot error, or airframe failing , but it is so easy to blame the radio.

Ayup Gary, yes, it is absolutely fabulous to have the confidence to fly as you like knowing that only an oversight in the build or ones own pre flight preparation that will shoot you down. I love to fly in particular, my collection of 40's semi scale 'warbirds' fast and low. without the rock solid reliability of the 2.4G signal this just wouldn't be possible.... for long... Here's a fave... just a quickie bit of 'Aero-porn' [badass] ..
