Same time, same place, 2014, as a matter of interest, one of the flyable mossys is kept in the cosford museum, it was going to be BAEs machine, but was found to have a twist in the fuselage, and I, have sat in the cockpit during an aranged visit to cosford, to take data of the plane, its wierd, its all plain, green painted wood, held together with wood screws, brave crews,MAGNIFICENT machine

I hope the Mossie is not only held together with screws as it would mean all the glue has failed! :ohmy:
"Glued and screwed" I think is the appropriate term.

Correct, but there was evidence of wood screws all over the cockpit, it was superb though, sitting in the pilots seat of this old lady,

An experience I have yet to have

Only thing was though, we where invited to access the cockpit through the lower hatch, basically, its grip the grabs, swing your ass up, and climb inside, i was younger then, but still could not do it, so we accessed through the rear cargo door, and went on all fours to the cockpit, how the hell the RAF did it, with flying kit, i will never know!! i was with 2 friends, one of them being non other than Ian Redshaw, what a great morning, they let us crawl all over it, no shoes, and carefull where you put your feet!!

As kids we used to ride our push bikes out to Thruxton (only 40 miles) there were two Mossies parked at the lower end of the airfield that anyone could play on, or in! What always amazed me was the size, and I still remember to this day the shear thickness of the Plexiglass canopy!

And now Klippy is kicking himself, because all that balsa went to waste! :woohoo:
