Oh dear, Sky! Get it right - an ENGINE burns liquid fuel mixed with air, a motor is electric!

that is a good point...... If Eric is correct in the differences, why do they call it motor boat / car?? :silly:

What ever is technically correct, it seems id is only in the UK that cards have to have an engine and not a motor. When I ask if a second hand motor is available for my car, I get a blank look, as I discovered a motor means a car :)

Isn't this the only place where cell phones (a name that accurately describes the technology) are called mobile phones?

Most places in the world men either wear long pants or short pants over their underwear, here they wear trousers over their pants.

A few years ago, a secretary couldn't ask if anyone had a spare stiffy she could borrow, she had to ask for a 3 1/2 " floppy disc, and they are not floppy at all.

Could go on for ages, but if you know what someone means, does it matter how they say it?
If it does, let's insist on RP, and get rid of all the regional accents, especially those that pronounce hanger han ger, and house ouse etc etc etc

Down here we call them mobile phones - cell phone is Yank. Talking of Yanks - when they barrack for a team they use the word "root". It is great fun to hear a young bubbly blonde Yank woman saying she roots for such and such. Down here "Root" has a basic fundamental biological meaning. But then again we speak Aussie English which confuses just about every one! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

We're straying WAY off topic here, but I suppose the motor/engine bit goes right back to when four legged horse were being replaced by petroleum horses, and it differentiates between the horse-drawn carriage, and the horseless carriage, which was clumsy to say, and became the motorized carriage.
On the same vein, the motorboat, it doesn't have a motor space, it has an engine space, and on a ship, there isn't a motor room, it is the engine room!
Your typical flying club spamcan doesn't have a motor turning the prp, it has an engine.
English, she is a crazy language!
Now, can we go back onto thread about the P40 and trainer build?
