Well the weather has put a stop to tomorrow's flying so I've finally found some time & decided to dig this out & get started.
It's going electric & Ive already got the motor & ESC for it.
I wanted some idea as to what its weight will be, so I decided to weigh all the bits first & get some idea.
This will help me to decide between built up wings or foam veneer.
This is what I've got up to now.
Fuz 437g
Motor 232g
ESC 66g
Prop 28g
Tail 93g
Undercarriage 225g
Flight Battery 550g
Cowl 62g
Canopy 25g
Servo's 132g
RX 10g
Rx battery 100g
Wings??????????????????

Total 1960g + apx 570g for wings. = 2530g .... 5.57769 lb
I weighed a set of Precedent Hi Boy wings to get this estimate .... I think I can do a lot better.
It'll need painting & some fittings so it'll come out nearer to 6lbs .... but I'm going to see where I can save some weight.

I'm not too worried about the weight, except for being tight fisted & wanting to get away with cheap batteries. :)
This is the baby that will be powering it ..... & it can deliver 980 Watts! :woohoo:

If it was mine, it would be powered with a 35/48 770 w motor with a12x6 prop. It is the same weight approx as my Pulse 40, and that flys a dream on that set up. With that motor you Will get the poke you require (what an opening for Grumps), poss a 13 inch prop would be better, use the watt meter!!

One of the main things I've got to do is give the thing a battery hatch ... it's like this at the moment, so it looks like time for a bit of butchering.

You dont do the job by halves, do you?. The size of the battery will be interesting, must be massive:) :) :)

I was thinking of doing a lot of lightening in the tail area ... the fin & tail are quite thick sheet & I could easily cut a lot of it away & save about 50 -60 grams.
I was talking to Garry, Tony & Eric about it on "Live Chat" tonight & I've decided not to bother for now. If it turns out to be a problem later then I'll modify it.
The next step is to start painting the Fuz & get the wings built .... then I'll have a better idea of where the battery will have to sit in order to get the COG correct.

I managed to put off all the serious mundane daily chores yesterday & gave myself a modelling day .... started to paint the Strider outside. Not very happy with it because it was too hot & the paint was drying too fast without wetting out properly.
I'll let this harden & rub it down before the final gloss spray coat, at least this will serve as a good undercoat & I've actually got around to getting to work on it it again. :cheer:

I must admit that I have Garry & Klippy to thank for my being able to find time to do any modelling.
The forum has taken off to such an extent that I'm frequently (almost every night) on it until the early hours of the morning. .... as you can see by the time of this post.... and this clock is GMT
I'll hopefully get another day to work on this model today... but if I want to make a reasonably early start, say 9.00am, I'll have to get to sleep now & settle for 4 hours.
It's very unlikely that I can just switch off now so I may as well just skip sleep & carry on through the night.
I wouldn't want to get accused of being lazy & sleeping all the time.
