looks interesting.
just a thought, could you not have put the servo nearer the tail and stuck a double arm through the fuselage, that way you could have a control rod ontop of the fuselage as well as one underneath to work the elevators and save the joint in the double arm.

The 2.5g servo arms are pretty short so they would only have stuck top and bottom of the fuselage right at the tail but then the servo itself would not fit.
The other aspect is that as a belly lander I did not want control horns on the underside particularly at the tail where they could get damaged.
The easiest solution would have been to use a separate servo for each elevator half and this indeed was my plan B. ;)

Just this minute completed so here is the elevator under test.

Now just the fin to fit

Fitting the fin was a bit of a fiddle to get the smallest hole in the fin as the push rod has quite a complicated motion.

At last I have finished the other nacelle although the EDF and the after body still have to go in.
So here are all the bits so far.

It looks like it the scrappers have had a go at it!
Just the nose to make.

And it still there or rather it was in 2009 - Google Street View

Those bushes do a good screening job!

At last a bit of real progress. The wing is now structurally complete.

With its aileron servos and the EDFs it weighs 2.9 oz (83g).

The tail feathers added to the wings.

With the half shell nose section complete the other half of the formers are added.

The nose does not carry anything so it is built as a true stressed skin monocoque. Even the 'solid' canopy is part of the structure.
The solid former (No1!) is temporary and will be removed when the skin is complete. It will then be glued directly onto the corresponding fuselage former which has a small flange to accept it.

With the nose complete it can be stuck on to complete the basic airframe.

Like this (2 EDFs and 3 servos) it weighs 4.1 oz (116 g)
I expect it will weigh close to 7 oz when complete with a 950mAh 2s battery..

I cant go much further until I have installed all the wiring which requires several extension leads to be soldered on.
I like to test everything as I do each cable so if there is a problem I know exactly where it is (or should be!).
The servo & the radio use micro JST connectors so to test them with my servo tester I need a standard to micro JST adapter. So I made one up. No problem except I had not spotted a single strand (0.01 mm dia :woohoo: ) from the tiny 32 AWG servo wire I used did not solder and ended up touching the signal wire. I did not spot it so the first time I used it 5V went straight into the signal and it 'killed' the tiny 2.5g servo. Doh!
No great loss they are only £2.52 from HK but of course 'out of stock' in the UK and Europe so 3-6 weeks China delivery (and big postage) :woohoo:
As it was an aileron servo I would prefer they were identical.
So it is either wait for UK stock or China delivery (but in the meantime I can proceed with the remaining good aileron) or replace both with something different.
Either way there will not be much progress for a bit!

Decided to order a replacement servo (from China!) so I can continue working on the other wing.
Tissue covered (I have not done much of that recently! :P

There should be picture here but I now see the image insert system has been disabled
The 10A ESC has had it shrink wrap removed so the motor wires could be soldered directly to it and a small heat sink added which is exposed to the air stream.
I have now run out of lightweight Modelspan but at least that order comes from the UK! :)

Alan
The servo you suggested has slightly different characteristics to the 282A I have already installed in the right wing. Probably wouldn't make that much difference but as the servos are completely built in I didn't want to risk it.

Given that the entire Caberra has been built from just one sheet of 2mm Depron (£3.50) I am not keen to pay anything more than I have to! ;) ;)
The redundant micro JST from the 'killed' servo will be reused as the ESCs to radio connector

The radio by the way is an Orange 4ch micro stabilised unit. I would include a picture but........
and its a lot cheaper than even a bog standard Spektrum AR400!

I'm with Q on this one Alan. I much prefer to build rather than buy so most of my airframes have been produced for less than a tenner.

Here's power to your elbow Q!

I wonder if this will work?

Tissue added to the RH wing panel. (From the RCME site!)

And I have just 'thought up' a problem.
If the plane has to be upside down to put in and connect the battery what happens to the 3 axis gyro when you right it to launch?
