been a slow day, done some to the lancaster and the shackleton as well as the nemesis.

got the fuselage ready for covering now.

i want to spray this one as an experiment.
so i think tissue and poly c is the order of the day.
the wings will have to be covered with an iron on film though.

one point to add.
be very very sure that you dip your brush into the right container.
sanding sealer and coffee are not interchangeable. :P

After a weekend of shackleton building i thought i best do some more work to this one.

the next job was to cut out the ailerons from the foam core wings. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
so have a coffee and sit and measure the cut lines, then slurp some coffee and check the measurements again and again for luck.
then deep breath and cut.

if you got it right you will end up with this.

so after another slurp of coffee you can do it again.

you can breath now. :P

then you can fit the cap strips to the cut outs in both wings, these need epoxying on (pound land twin tube epoxy is good for this, cos you need lots of it)
hold them in place with masking tape to set.

finish your coffee and slop some paint on the fuselage.

Tomorrow i will finish the ailerons and tidy the wing up.

well today i have been mostly sleeping. :P
nah...
sanded the wings to shape and tidied up the aileron slots.

then i took a deep breath and cut the ailerons to shape.
measure as many times as you feel is needed then cut.
its messy, very messy, polystyrene every where. :P

glue on the balsa strips to cover the polystyrene and leave to set.

go get a coffee. :cheer:
come back and tackle the first aileron servo.
decide which way up you are fitting the servo and make a balsa box with a ply top.
then mark out where it has to go and cut into the nice pristine wing.

dig out masses of the messy stuff, ( balls every where again)

and epoxy the box in place.

get a nice bit of sharp tube and mark where the servo wire run will be and then bore a hole through the inside of the wing, with luck it will line up with the servo hole.
thats one side done. :cheer:

tomorrow i will tackle the other side and then i am ready to join the wings.

the bore the hole bit is easy enough, just make 3 v blocks out of scrap wood, prop the wing up so that the tube libes up from the middle, and, using the v blocks to rest the tube, slowly bore into the foam, soon done, as for the digging foam out, i use a soldering iron, with a depth stop on it, but be carefull, the heat takes the foam away for several mm either side of the iron,

i have 2 sides
no you dont,
yes i do,

If you have a 'dust-buster' type portable vacuum, leave that running with the nozzle next to where you are digging the hole - then all the little white balls go straight into the collecter!

Lots of finger-nail marks in that balsa, skin, Tony!
