Had to put all my modelling things away for today as my little.............................wonderful 7 year old grandson who cannot keep his th......... little fingers off anything, is arriving at an unknown time. Thank god the weather is fine and we can shunt him down to the beach. Start on the Airbus later this week, as I said, lots of windows and wheels (and, strangely lots of different paints needed.) Not much flying being done as my local club don't seem to be interested in having a mature person with loads of experience as a member! So I go flying in the local park before anyone wakes up.

Their loss Harry, does your grandson not fancy learning?

I have read a few excerpts from Dysons Tank Twins, only bits on when he was evacuated during world war 2 and it really does sound a fantastic read- will have to buy the book.
When I was little one of my favourite places was a model village we used to go to when we were on holiday in Perranporth, Cornwall. I love the detail put into small replicas and your tank is fantastic, what an brilliant story to go with it too. Thank you for sharing it with us :)

I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum.
Cos how can you be grumpy when the sun shines out your bum?!

Unfortunately the grandson has never been controlled. When we lived nearer to his parents we saw him and his sister at least once a week. His older sister is allowed to wind him up continually. The mother went off, they now live with her etc. etc. Now we only see them about once a year.
My stepson has got very strange ideas about bringing children up. No discipline, at all, cannot say certain words such as No! Or don't. So we are now told that it is a behavioural problem!
A good slap around the legs a few years ago would have helped, but I don't fancy prison food.
Re the club, I have been in four main clubs, in three different countries, I was secretary of one, and met members of several others, I have never had any problem with anyone apart from this club who are really unfriendly.

Found a little plastic pig to go on the Churchill tank today, in a toy shop. It looks a bit too perky at the moment so I will give it a going over with some heat. Boiling water or a blowlamp, I was going to cut its throat, but my wife didn't like that idea, Need to get it looking like a deceased pig, an ex-pig with eyes closed, perhaps I should tie its feet together?
It also has a CE mark moulded into the side I want to have at the top!

Have had a good look at the Airbus A380 kit. Decided that I don't want to build it. Main reason, no chance of building it with drooped flaps, lift reduction devices, angled ailerons, etc. NO clear plastic passenger windows included in kit, fuselage too big and floppy without any structure. So its off to ebay with it! Only paid £5 for it at a car boot sale anyway.

So having a think, don't really want to start another tank yet, might start a Mk. 16 Spitfire. Or not.

I thought I would show the Tamiya Tiger Tank with Zimmerit effect on here. This was close-up with the light directed to show the ridges.

As I said, from a metre away it is difficult to make out that there is anything applied.

Harry
I think that Zimmerit looks about right.
Its not that obvious either in this wartime photo.
The bizarre fact is that only Germany used magnetic anti tank mines in any quantity in WWII so it really wasn't required on their own vehicles!

I was hoping for something a bit more like this.

So I applied modelling putty with an artists knife and was quite pleased with the result. I had about 20 seconds to work with before each section of putty dried out......

I have started on the next project, a Revell 1/24 Ferrari from season 2007.Bought cheap in the local Modelzone that has now closed. I'm not really a car model or Ferrari person, but it's a challenge.

I didn't realise there were so many parts in a modern F1 car. Following the instructions is a bit of a nightmare, they are well illustrated but a bit confusing because there are three different alternative versions. Some bits are painted, other parts are painted (suspension) then covered in tiny sections of simulated carbon fibre decal. (I seem to have lost 2!) I will put a picture on when I get a bit further along.

I have finished the Ferrari, the parts with no carbon fibre don't show unless you know where to look. I didn't like the recommended Revell paint choice so used a Fiat car aerosol spray (Fiat Red Orange) from Halfords, cost more than the kit.
Next project. - Russian T34 Tank.

Just had a look inside the T34 tank kit. Lots of plastic. Apparently there are 474 parts. Should keep me quiet for a few days.

Getting on with the T34 Tank. This is at a different pace to anything I have started except an 8 wheeled German armoured car from the same kit manufacturer which had every driveshaft, axle and steering arm replicated. What I like to do is try to assemble and paint two or three sets of parts at the same time, but these parts are so small and similar I have to keep on top of every move. When I get on further with the T34 I will post a pic. In the meantime here is the armoured car.
