The next one is on the board!

I've done a lot of research on the Lacey, so why waste it......it's a rubber powered FF Lacey M-10, designed to be kitted by SAMS Models later this year. The model will be suitable for rubber, electric, CO2, free flight, RC, indoors or outside, but the prototype will be indoor, free flight rubber.

When building fuselage sides, I use twice-size blocks of scrap wood to jig the longerons so that both sides can be built in sequence, one on top of the other. Accordingly, I cut an extra piece as the each part is made, so side two goes together quite quickly. In pic one, the jigging blocks are being set in line using a straight edge.

In pic 2, the main longerons have been laid down. Note that they are all cut oversize so that pins may be used in the waste areas to hold them down. Otherwise, the parts are held in place with blocks of scrap wood.

That's going to be quite big?

The first fuselage side is now complete, or at least, all I'm going to do to it while on the board is done.

The second should follow pretty quickly as all the parts have been pre-cut to match side one.

Side two is now 'on the board' on top of side one. The door positions on each side of the fuselage are different - left side to the rear and right side to the front - which should explain the mess of sticks under the side windows.

Thanks John (one tenor).

The pins are moulded heads around fine needles. They've been commented on before on this Forum, you can order them from SAMS Models.

Regarding the plan, the hint is in the title....the model is being designed for eventual kitting by SAMS Models. ;) ;)

Them be lots of sticks!

What do you use to cover your plans Andy? I used to use proper wax paper in SA and nothing stuck to it, but the 'greaseproof' stuff here is useless. Think I'm going to have to import a few rolls ;)

I use clear film to protect plans. On this one, it's the protective covering from an A2 project book, but if I don't have anything similar to hand, I use cling film.

I've tried cling film too, that also sticks to the structure. Maybe I need to use less glue...

Monz there is cling film and there is cling film ;) I often use cling film to isolate resin when glassing. Some cling film is useless, the resin sticks like crazy. However i have a roll of sainsburys own brand that is good. The other method is to use the backing from Solartex, and or Balsa Cabin does a plan protector which also works really well :)
Cheers
Danny

Monz, I use a protective plastic that I buy in Spar. It's slightly opaque when on the roll but when pinned over the plan it's perfect and doesn't ruck or crinkle. Drop me a line if you'd like me to send you some.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Construction progresses. The first pic is the fuselage with the jigging pieces removed:

The following five are stages in the construction of the tailplane and fin:
