ASK 21 BALSA/GLASS was created by Sarah-Jane Smith
Heh you lovely nice chappies (grovel, grovel  ) know anything about the ASK21 2600mm ep Glider, someone I know would like to know any info on it and whether it works well with "crow breaking" - whatever that is???

They are buying it from HK- here is the link,

www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__1804...Fiberglass_ARF_.html

Any help/advice much appreciated :)

I will leave this one to Eric or Pol, Sarah. I only have one glider, and that is a powered one, like this one, and am not keen on gliders

I love gliders, though I prefer un-powered ones for slope soaring, but there is still room in my heart for power assisted models for flat field flying. :) :) :)

Just looked at the video, first, crow braking is when you drop the flaps, and up the ailerons, (or it may be the other way round) this speed brakes the aircraft for this, you need what this model seems to have, 2 piece ailerons, these can also be slighlty drooped, to give even more reflex for thermal, or low wind speed flying, having 4 aileron servos can give you, with a good computer radio, and some programming savvy, some interesting mixes, this model also seems to employ a thick reflex section, great for high lift soaring, and also will give a good turn of speed, i also, when looking, got a buy it now offer, seems a nice model for the money,

I've not seen this model in the flesh, so to speak, BUT HK glassfibre fuselages are very flimsy, and need reinforcing bands inside around the stress points.
Beware of getting one that isn't complete, or is damaged in transit. (See my comments on the Salto!)
I note it is intended for an inrunner motor. They tend to prefer smaller props, because they spin faster, with less torque than an outrunner, so are more suited to ducted fans, than swinging big props!
If it is crow brakes ready, it will be a fast flyer, so a bit tricky to get down if the field isn't large, or has obstructions around the periphery.
It will require at least six servos, plus the speedo. So a ubec is essential, I wouldn't like to run that many servos on a bec. Consider that - if the pilot is applying brakes and elevator, that is five servos moving at once, plus any other gimmicks that have been added.
It will probably need slim servos in the wing, or they will protrude a long way below the skin, and they are not the cheapest!
Eppler 205 is a moderately thin section that doesn't like to fly slowly, as it becomes very inefficient. It has to move to work at it's best.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Eric, will the addition of a slight reflex of aileron and flap help with the slow speed bit

Maybe. I couldn't honestly say. I do know that if you slow a clean 205 down too much, it sinks faster than a concrete parachute. It's one of those sections where if you are in poor lift, and scratching, you mustn't be scared of pushing the nose down and letting the machine run.

The inrunner will be for its smaller diameter, the site quotes 1,100kv to 1,200kv and a 5mm shaft. I suspect an outrunner may not fit nicely in that tapering nose. But, I like it, I may have to buy one! :)
Eric, you're quite right, they do say you need thin servos in the wings. My best guess is it's going to cost more to equip than the original airframe cost! :(

Do it now, you may never get another chance

I've been scratching around, 1100kv is not going to make the most efficient use of the prop. For an 11x7 I think 1400kv will be better. The closest outrunner is going to be a 35mm, the trick will be to find it with a 5mm shaft.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Crow breaking is just a method of spoiling the lift on a model so you can land it in a shorter distance.
Some models seem to glide on forever & that's no good if you have limited runway space.
If you apply up ailerons & down flaps, you just end up with a load of drag & it slows the model right down.
Here's another forum's view on it .... I don't mind advertising competitors

I just own the forum .... you guys make it great thanks.

Hi Sarah, tell your friend that i have the same model. It is a thing of beauty and flies like a dream.
My set up is all from HK and is working well.

HK ss 50-60A esc
Turnigy 3648 outrunner 850kv
3A Ubec
slim servos in wings
pull/pull set up on rudder.

This thing will go vertical from a hand launch and keep going, thermals well also.
Haven't manged to get crow braking set up yet on my DX7, still playing with mixes, but the flaps do slow it down substantially.

Hope this helps, if he needs any more info then let me know. :cheer:

Hello Silvafox! New member, replying to a year-old thread! You must have been reading the forum properly - that's a first!
If you haven't done so already, put a few lines about yourself in the introduction thread, tell us where you are, what you fly, etc.
Don't put your phone number or your street address on, just your town or country area.
