Club 2000 still have the on course marshalls today but their speeds are relatively low. I don't know exactly what speed, but somewhere around the 100mph mark?.

On the long course, off course marshalls are now used using a lighting system for the No1 pylon, much better than flagging at No1 in the old days with 3 models hooning towards you at 180mph and turning above your head.... a very scary experience!

Indeed, for any model to be flying above your head it is dangerous, but with F3D reaching speeds in excess of 330kph and 20-30ft off the ground, its not even an option to marshall on the pylons.

IIRC they used to hide in a mesh 'tent' wearing motorbike crash-hats!

Yep, a search of Club 20 revealed your thread - I can admit to having a Tarka with an OS20 - not much racing but a lot of flying for fun... back in the day?

I had an American kit for a Miss Dara. It didn't last long! Great in straight lines, but bank and yank, and it tip-stalled! SPLAT! Even the Webra 20 was bent! It had two glass arrow-shafts for the wing-spars.
