After many years (at least 45) am returning to modelling.Have purchased a VMC se5a ff kit , wondering what size pin board will I need to pin parts over plans,open to your expertise ,

There aren't many free-flighters on this group -
but I'd suggest that you want a board that is bigger than the largest assembly in the kit - usually the wing.

That applies to any model, really. You need to have the space to assemble it AND have room to have the other bits to hand, ready for including, otherwise you end up with bits in boxes where they can be mislaid or broken.
(Especially if you have a cat that likes sitting in boxes!)

It also depend on the rate you intend to build. The SE5 has a lot of bits of wing (5?). If you have the space you could build more than one wing bit at a time.
Your board alsoneeds to be long enough to build the fuselage. You may find the fuselage is actually longer to construct than any single bit of wing.
Is yours the rubber powered version or for radio control?
I note that at 24" span it is quite small for an RC plane.
