WHY is this non existant affilitaion allowed to exist? why can i not fly on my LMA insurance, which i would rather do? i know the BMFA has done loads for the modelor, and i am not a bit bothered, it galls me that the BMFA has a strangle hold over clubs, its a fact that we aproached the club comitee last year, and they refused to recognise the LMA insurance, is this even legal ??
The LMA insurance covers in every way, so, i have to pay out twice, i would rather give it to charity, it annoys me, this year, the 18 yr old limit on membership has been DROPPED by the LMA, now juniors can fly along side seniors, as long as they pass the LMA proficiency test, a GREAT move, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for both associations, i strongly favour the LMA but a lot of my flying is below 7kg, yet both associations cover over and under 7kg models daft, innit?

I can sympathise but provided a club has kept within the terms of its constitution it can set what ever rule it likes, I know I've been there!
As far as I can tell all club members have to have insurance as a requirement to be affiliated to the BMFA but the insurance does not have to be provided by them. I suspect clubs simply prefer to take the easy option though.

£15 -a- year. Usual modeller's insurance. No hassle.
It's cheaper to buy your insurance this way, than to buy direct from the broker. You might have to say "Adios" to your club, though.

Im not sure what you mean by "non existant affiliation", affiliation very much does exist and there are very real benefits to the club by affiliating, you can read more about the those benefits, such as the various insurance extras such as employers liability, landowner cover full committee cover etc by reading The Affiliation Partnership booklet. Conditions for affiliation are the club has a minimum of 5 members that join the BMFA through the club and that all members are BMFA members or SAA members (there is a reciprocal agreement with the SAA)alan cantwell wrote: WELL, its that time of year, i am a member of the LMA, i have already paid my subs, all of £20 to existing members, including insurance, BARGAIN, but its not the money that bothers me, its the fact that its the club AGM next week, and i will have to join the BMFA for there is a so called affiliation to the association,

Personally in all the years I served on the committee of a number of different model flying clubs I wouldn't have done so without the extra cover provided due to affiliation and I would certainly not expect others to accept risk on my behalf within a club without those people being adequately covered, which affiliation offers. It is however completely up to the clubs and there members whether to affiliate to the BMFA and receive the very real benefits. It is not forced on the clubs at all.
