I'm not sure if I have asked this before.
On my Kavalier somehow I managed to mount the engine a lot further forward than what is on the plans! Will this have any detrimental effects?
I need to make a balsa cowl which I was going to do after I had maidened it but the firewall will be covered in lovely smelly greasy fuel making it a lot harder to glue bits to the firewall. So ideally want to sort the cowl before I fly it.

Somebody called me 'pretentious' the other day.

Mounting the engine further forward will affect the Cof G Dean, but will have no detrimental effect on the flying.

Have you thought of making a cowl that can be removed and replaced, or is this not possible. As you rightly say, it WILL be covered in goo, and difficult to glue to

As Garry said - the engine is about the heaviest piece of the model, so all you will do is move the c of g point further forward. You can accommodate this by either having less lead n the nose, or putting the receiver battery further back!
Regarding the cowl. Put mounting blocks onto the firewall, seal it all up with fuel-proofer, and then screw the cowl onto the blocks when you are ready! No sticking trouble involved, and it makes it easier to get it off again when the fuel pipe perishes, or a back-case screw falls out!

Unless you add that much side area forward of the CofG as to effect the lateral stability.

There's always that!

You can always cheat, and add a sub-fin, or make a strake a bit bigger!
