Outer wing tubes from fibre glass

This is how i do my outer tubes, i buy the ally tube from my diy shop, better than paying £26 plus a lot of postage to get them here,
First i spiral wrap brown parcel tape sticky side up along the tube, just a little longer the you need, i hold it in position with a small bit of tape

When i reach the length i want i cut the tape off and spiral wind it all the way back again this time sticky side down, so we have two layers of brown tape on the tube,

I then cut a piece of glass cloth again a little longer than needed and wide enough to go round the tube three times
I stick it with small pieces of tape to hold it in position

Yuo dont need your friends to hold it for you

I lay a piece of poly sheet on the bench to do the glassing on

I then brush on the resin well into the cloth i used 4oz cloth for this one, but different weights can be used
I did not take any pictures of the brushing , dont want resin all over the camera,
I used some masking tape to hold the last edge down until it went off,

Does the sticky tape come out (easily?) when the glass fibre has gone off?

When its gone off, this was only a couple of hours, i put one end of the ally tube in the vice and pulled the outer tube off

Then i get a screw driver and loosen the tape on both ends

from the glass, if i do a long one 1200mm i get a length of spruce and poke down it
Then get a pair of pliers and pull the tape out


Thats it simples, not saying its the correct way or the best way, just how i have been able to do it, my first ones were not successful,the one in my OD jet is not strong enough, if it flys then i will see about changing it
