Although 'emulsion' is water based the paint emulsion droplets within it are not so once the water has evaporated the paint 'cures' over time (hours) to a water resistant but not water impervious surface. As the water does not contribute to the colour the paint has a high pigment content which gives it good coverage.
I suppose the question is would dilution and spray atomising alter the way the emulsion behaves as it dries.
Many emulsions have a gel agent which would further complicate the issue.

There are home brew thinners on the net which would probably overcome the problem of additives in emulsions rather than thinning with water alone. Pigment size is also a consideration, like I said Valspar seems to be recommended.

I tried spraying emulsion a few years back in Cyprus and did not get on at all with it, had to thin it down so much to get it to spray there was no coverage in it,

I seem to remember the indoor flyers recommending thinning emulsion with screen wash rather than water, the antifreeze component ( alcohol?) breaks the droplets down.
Personally I would use enamel thinned with cellulose rather than turpentine, drys A lot quicker and being very pigment rich covers well.

balsa is best.

Ralph

I have no experiance of spraying emulsion paint, sound a bit too close to home decorating for my liking !!

I think on a build like that I would stick to known durable products.

I thought klass kote had a good range of scale colours, Dave Platt (great scale modeller seems to use the paints).

When I was a kid I used to turn gloss enamel's to satin and matt by the inclusion of talcum powder, that would definitely be worth a try with Rustins Plastic Coating.

Barrie

Klass kote is brilliant, i had some from Phil at Fighter Aces for my own design F3A a few years back in Cyprus
The only problem i had with it was the cost, its quite an expensive paint but the shipping to Cyprus was a killer

Blackbird

Brilliant and cost are often closely associated with one another in my experience.

Hazardous shipping is an absolute rip off IMO, mostly the goods come in the same trucks as normal shipments, Royal Mail being an exception as they don't handle hazardous at all as far as I can see.

Do you know if Phil is still selling Klass Kote? last time I looked it was not on his website anymore.

B.
