Why side mounted?
Surely it would almost fit within the fuselage contours if it was inverted.

Seemed a good idea at the time i wanted the exaust under the fuslarge,, but i think you are right if it flys ok then i will get a new cowl and invert the engine when i recover the whole model.

Hi Klipy the tank is 550cc it is what i had to hand so ill see how long it runs for and if need be change it when i recover the plane,
The numbers were suprising, i had been thinking on getting a IC F3A model for practiceing as the electric was not to long a run, long enough in terms of competition but not practice
The electric motor burnt out, its welded itself solid,
I turned the Saito motor upside down today Quorneng and it fits inside the cowl but i could not get the exhaust out the bottom it needs a 50mm exstention pipe to clear, dont know if they make one
It sticks out the side with a lot of carving of the fire wall
I took some pics but the girl has took my camera again

Got my camera back so here's some pics









But now i have a BIG AIR HOLE the other side where i cut for the side mounted engine

and where parts of the crumpled cowl fell out
Must have had my brains somewhere else to have mounted it sideways

looks a lot better that way round BB.

sometimes we get an idea fixed in our heads and cannot see any other way of doing things.

cut a bit of plastic to fill the big hole sir.

I thought all nitro tanks were in front fo the CoG, to keep the tank as close to the engine as posible
On my SU27 the tanks are in front of the CoG and it holds 4.8 Lts

There was a beutiful aeroplane called Inspire F3A

But it fell from the sky and is now an ugly duckling





It also now needs 160g of weight as well as the battery on the firewall to balance it with the tank in the forward position

looks distinctive at least.
as long as it flies ok, the looks don't matter.
great repair job, i would have thrown it away if it was mine.

If i can get rest of the season out of it then next winter i will strip it and recover with a few other mods

I think the servos were designed like that to keep the pushrods short for no play or flexing,
I will go tomorrow and try it with everything as i have put it together i am at this moment fixing the the weight above the engine so that should help to keep a little more weight down
we will see how it flys but i have to find a prop first, not easy here,
But the sun is wonderful

Great repair job Blackbird, who cares what it looks like so long as it flys and you enjoy it, anyway we all now what happend to the ugly duckling in the end!!
