Walkera 22e - Newbie (I'm a beginner)

OK, So i'm a slope soarer at heart but I don't get a lot of time even for that. So this year I went to the BMFA Nationals with hopes of getting myself one of the tiny 3 channel Helis for around £20

Walking around the trade stands I was disappointed to find that even the small "toy" ones were around £40........ errr, no chance! not for that.

I lay my hopes on the bring and buy...... again, walking around that, I was astonished at some of the prices. Until EVENTUALLY I came across a lovely lady selling a complete Walkera 22e with a lot of spares. She wanted £40. I literally had £25 left on me without hitting the bank cards so that Garry Modder feller lent me another £5, nice bloke!

So off I trotted to try and make my deal. I asked the lady If she would be willing to let it go for £30 as it was EVERYTHING i had except the bit of shrapnel in my pocket. She Accepted.

So I am now the owner of almost 2 Walkera 22e 3D Helicopter.

I'm going to use this thread to talk about my learning curves, my issues, and my requirements for advice.

I have been playing the past few days....... my first note is this......
I HATE LOCTITE!!!
How can you repair a helicopter when the thing has been stuck together with that dreadful stuff??

Depending on the kind of loktite used, gentle heat on the screw/nut/bolt usually 'cracks' it. Try a clean soldering iron if it is not into or holding plastics!

Before you try flying your strimmer, get plenty of practice on phoenix, etc.

The rule is TINY TINY stick movements. Just nudge it and let go - the exact opposite of fixed wing flying!
Gently feed in power until the heli begins to lift, note which way it decided to go, chop the power, and nudge the trims, until it stays more or less on the spot when you lift off. Take it one axis at a time, because they interact!!!
Once you get more than three inches from the floor, DO NOT chop the throttle, cos heli's don't glide! Notch down the throttle until the beast settles.

Concentrate, at first, on keeping the tail to you, but bear in mind the yaw control (rudder) is most important. Left yaw turns the NOSE left, (tail goes right!). Left cyclic ( roll) slides the whole heli left. Up ele is when you chop your shins off, because that is back cyclic!

Oh - and only fly it where there is LOTS of room, and a flat calm, at first, because heli's can and will go in all directions at once!

Four table-tennis balls on a cross about the same diameter as the rotors. made of spruce, if you are too tight for carbon. tie the cross to the 'legs', job done.
The TT balls stop the skid ends from digging in and tripping the heli
