Seagull Nemesis

I managed to build a Seagull Nemesis on Christmas day,started and finshed it,thats the good part but on 2 landings Ive damaged the u/c so Im putting a winter hack together and keeping the Nemesis for better weather

Hi Gee Bee,The Nemesis takes off well and flies well.It needs to land at speed which I havent mastered need a good day to practise.Ive had to strengthen the u/c a bit and tou fit the bolts through holes in the belly and they had glue in the threads which was a challenge

No photograph can show what a stunning model the Nemesis is Bee Gee,it is one of those models that has real presence in the air and with only a Thunder Tiger 46 pro is very fast in the air.

Took the Nemesis to the field today.!st flight excellant lovely model to fly wind had become a little akward.First landing she bounced back up so I powered it and after a wiggle carried on round for my best landing with her yet.2nd flight really getting used to this model but first landing aborted,an expert offered to land,I accepted.He brough it into approach landed short and ripped the u/c off.I thanked him for landing but you think you could have done a better job dont you.

The main undercarriage plate as pulled out and broken in half so Ive made a new one.Ive made it from 2 pieces of Balsa and glued them together and left them to dry overnight.Ill have to swop the captured nuts over as well,so thats a job for tomorrow.None of my reinforcing came out,so hopefully plenty to glue to.May have to remove the bottom of the fuz to get the plate inso may make it into a removeable piece.

Ive made a new plate drilled the holes and fitted the captive nuts.The only way to fit the plate was as I thought.Ive cut a piece out of the fuselage to make it possible to get at the position the plate should go in getattable.I have to rub a small amount off the plate to make it fit and decide if I need to do anything with thebase of the aperture it fits into.I can glue all the way round and some of the base,just need to decide if that will be enough.

Threw the new plate away not happy with it,had already cut 2 so used the second one.The strengthening I has already done was still in place untouched.where the plate fits was all ok so it was just a case of shaping the playe to fit and gluing it in.All went well last night and Its all completed

Great day at the field today 4 good flights but she doesnt slow down when landing,,especially today with no wind.Also likes to jump on landing ,and tends to turn this into a skip and hop if your not careful,but arrived home for the fist time with no work necessary

Lat Saturday was the first time I had 4 flights with the Nemesis and the under carriage stated on,so that was a big step forward.Today was easily the best day so far.I had limited myself to taking the Nemesis only and enough time for 4 flights.They were brilliant and very satisfying.Eaclh landing was an improvement to the previous on and the 3 rd landing was easily the best one so far,The wind was anakward direction but no trouble.I experimented with flying it around slower and slower and doing a couple of approaches.My collegue had just been flying with an instructor and had come in at a stupid angle landed short and hit the fence slightly damaging the model.I showed him how I fly to the left of the field and come across lining up with the strip,I think it even helped me.I went round,dropped the throttle a long way out and gently lost the height and had the gentless of landings in the middle of the strip.My instructor(AlfMale ) then explained where I had gone all wrong,to slow shoulnt have bounced didnt flair enough..I took off again after refuelling ,had a bit of a jaunt round thoroughly enjoying myself,when he came up and said how much he liked the model.I asked him to show me how I should be landing it.First attempt it came through like a rocket,bounced back in the air and he had to go round again,2nd attempt it came barreling through like a rocket bounced higher and around he went again.By now it was tickover to high,th wind and the under carriage.On the 3rd attempt he landed nicely with a couple of bounces almost as good as mine,I was chuffed to bollocks.Final flight more flying around fast and doing various acrobatic manouvres when high up in an upside downposition it deadsticked ,high was good and high and brought it round in a wide arc to lose height and speed and landed perfectly,loved it.

Had a dead stick at the end of saturday and unfortunately it was on turning in to land across a hedge to miss landing looking into the sun.It tip stalled and cartwheeled very nicely.The damage is confined to the sides where the wings bolt in.It looks fairly straight forward.The main difficult repair I will have to do it with 5 minute epoxy because the only way to hold it in position will be with my hands.I have to do any strngthening on the inside because the outside is the position the mid mounted wings mount onto.Hopefully may have it repaired tonight

Or not at all Eric.Ive been steadily strengthening weak ares and keep finding cracks that need epoxy on them.Im trying to ensure the fuselage is sturdy.I found the engine mount box unglued and have been following this back up the fuselage.Every time I finsh,I find I can just move the engine.There is a lot of leverage just want to make sure its all secure

That didnt work,first landing Came in nice and low landed gently and it bounced up ,was caughtby the wind and did a rather delightful triple cartwheel which took the whole front end off,start again soon.

Back to bad for work wrong silencer for the Zlin so I continued work on the Nemesis.Having grafted the engine mount box assembly back onto the fuselage,I then strengthened the join with ply strips,at the join ing points.I then had to find the parts that fit at the top and bottom to complete the front of the fuselage,thes parts also came off with the front end.I thought They were in the back of my truck but no.I found the top part on the floor of my dining workshop so fitted that.I then found the bottom part out on the patio,good job it hasnt rained and fitted that.I need to rub it down and cover it now so its come on well today once I sorted out my filing of parts required.

Finally got round to adjusting the opening to fit the canopy back on.I used the razor saw and cut an eigth of an inch off the rear part at the front topwhere the canopy fits on.Reglued the piece of ply that holds the front of the canopy ,the battery is on charge for tomorrow
