By 2021 things have changed a bit.
For those who like the sound of IC there is nothing to compare but for convenience electric now wins by quite a margin. Only on the biggest planes (1/4 scale?) does IC provide the required power at a realistic budget.
As many clubs now find IC can involve strict noise regulation.
If 'jet' type models take your fancy then the electric ducted fan is the only practical possibility until you spend serious money on IC in the form of turbines.
It is worth noting that some model competition aerobatic flying now use electric by choice.

It does rather depend on where your interest lies. You can of course always change or do both! ;)

Electric all the way for me. Decent charger & at least 3 batteries. :)

Diesel is a learned skill, I have several and I always have endless trouble starting them, it was the same as a youngster. I like Glow (sometimes referred to as Nitro) easy to start and the fuel is easy to make and transport unless you want an exotic mix. I also like Electric now that the problems of weight and flight time have been sorted out. Battery charging remains a problem as does using Lipo batteries in low temperatures, (the batteries give their best at 35oC). Electric is perfect if you just want to nip out for an hour. For me I/C tends to be a whole morning or afternoon thing.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Klippy wrote, "For me I/C tends to be a whole morning or afternoon thing. "

That wouldn't be because the first hour or so is used getting the thing started & running properly would it ?
Seriously though, I love the sound of a well tuned I/C motor & have absolutely nothing against them. I just haven't got patience to faff about with them. Whack a battery in fly for 7 to 10 minutes, fag break, put another one in & repeat, simple. By rotating 3 batteries & with a good charger theoretically you can fly as much as you want. :)

Low Temperatures, Klippy? In Souh Africa? :-)

For a day's electric flying, just take a bag of batteries, or, if you don't have too far to go between car and pits, a car battery and a field charger - but that means waiting an hour between flights, if you only have one flight battery. (Mine can charge four smaller capacity batteries - up to about 2000Mah - at once)
Yes, you can charge the flight battery faster, if the field charger is up to it on 12v, but that shortens the useful life of both the batteries.
-
I can't say how lipo's will behave in a Norway winter (minus 25c a few days ago!) because I've never been, but for a UK winter, knock off about 25% of the flight time, that's about right - for a 0c temp.
-
But then, it's not battery endurance that matters, it is Human endurance, taking wind-chill into account!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

As you can see the "IC versus Electric" question is a hot discussion topic. :P

That is pretty much what we found here last week flying in minus 11 with wind chill.
6 to 7 minute flights weren't affecting the batteries that much if you kept them warm in the car. It was the fingers that suffered ! :S

I will use Glow, Petrol, and Electric. I can enjoy all three.
A decently tuned Glow should NOT need the endless "tiddling" some folk indulge in, a click or two depending on air temperature should be enough. Lipo Batteries have been getting harder to source. hopefully only a temporary supply disruption.

Have a nice Day, unless I don't like you.

I say the same to the 'carby fiddlers' - how often do you reset the jets and needles on your car?
-
Lipo's - blame Elon Musk et al for that!

I have a Thunder Tiger 40 that would go nicely but always cut when on finals. I always test engines in the model, it's the only way, after weeks I noticed that an air bubble was forming in the fuel feed pipe at the carburettor, just before it decided to quit. The needle has a tiny 'O' ring, I ordered a new needle (from Germany, would you believe) new needle fitted end of problem! If you're constantly having to fiddle you have a fueling problem and any amount of fiddling is never going to fix it.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

A suitable length of a suitable sized fuel pipe over the needle threaded part and over where the needle screws into the "spray bar" equivalent in an RC carb, sorted out a similar problem with a Magnum gp40, for me.

Can't remember at all this was a good 20 years ago but that carb may have had a "compromised" o ring too.
