I'm considering a bit of a diversion for me .The recommended engine is 15cc Petrol any suggestions please

as I have no knowledge of petrol engines I was hoping someone may be able to assist but seems not .Ill let you know how I progress

I did a lot in the old days with all types of glow engines Stephen, but never used a petrol one. However for reliability economy and lack of mess I feel they cant be beaten.
Their power output against the ones in the days gone by has also increased, and bearing in mind that we were restricted to OS and Merco 61 with glow engines , nothing bigger was allowed.
These days it would appear there is no restrictions , and it is only depth of pocket which seems to matter. Having said that the prices of the dedicated petrol engines for models I feel is very reasonable for what you get
There are as many petrol ones at Langar as glow.

Guy at our club maidened his Black Horse Chippie today, 72" span? with an NGH? 38 cc petrol in it.
I've never used petrol myself, (except in road cars!), but once set up properly, they are very good, reliable, and frugal!
You do need petrol-proof fuel tanks, lines etc, though, you cannot use silicon or plastic, as the petrol eats it! :evil:

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

I think the Bigger Black Horse Chippy at 85" would be more likely for a 38cc. And if it was Andy then it is the bigger one

Sorry cannot help with petrol, never used one in a model....

I have a NGH 38 two stroke and found it very good, although Hobby King do a nice four stroke of the same size and cheap as well, they also run very well, the prop must be spot on with balance as the single cylinder engines vibrate something wicked, just lost the top cowl and canopy of my new 50cc Revolver, two long 3mm screws came out in flight released the hatch and destroyed it
So make sure everything is well glued, and bolts to hatches put some fuel tube on them to stop them coming loose that's what I will do when I vac form a new cockpit
Apart from that they are good you will not want to go back to glow

Hi Stephen, I converted my SC52 to petrol but didn't like it, I felt it ran very hot, certainly the bearings didn't last long! You need to use the right fuel tubing, 'Tygon' if I recall. Also the bung in the tank must be petrol proof. Use best quality petrol (95RON) and use a quality 2 stroke oil, I would suggest Stihl or Husqvarna. The manufacturers say 2% mix, that's 50:1 but I would recommend starting with 25:1, then reduce the oil content depending on the amount of mess you're getting out of the exhaust. A 'low ash' oil like I've suggested won't do any harm if there's too much. I would suggest you use a separate battery and switch to power the ignition box, these things draw about 600mA (.6amp) at full chat so I would recommend a 1300mAh 3s lipo with a 2amp Bec which will easily give you 1 hours flying without problems.
Another thing, be careful, these big buggers bite!

The ignition on a petrol can be run off no more than six volts
I use a six volt 2000 nihm on mine, on my Revolver I run two 2s 2200 lipos through a sensor switch, I plug the ignition into the spare channel on the receiver, works fine
I start my 50cc by hand no glove, bit me once, eye watering experience.

Hi Stephen, it is a BIG model for a .90 size engine, I would be tempted to go for a 20cc petrol but no bigger, bearing in mind that they do recommend a 15cc.

Thanks very much everyone,I agree OF that it would be better to go for the 20cc. not a lot of difference in price .Its about £200 for the engine.I' ve found the model is already in stock and I've ordered one from Sussex may even be at home when I get there.Once its built Ill look at the engines the recommended is the Evolution

the Carbon Cub has arrived.Surprisingly some parts seem to have been just thrown in the box loosely.I went flying yesterday and there was one flying there powered by electic so it was good to see it flying but it needs an engine and noise.Im sticking with the 15cc Evolution petrol as thats what its designed to take

lthough a 20 cc may be the option still unsure.I found a packet of parts missing so not starting as yet Ive eaten enough ice cream to have enough containers for all the parts included in the kit
