NICE ONE Andy I built one of these for a D.C. Bantam and it flew great but I think it was built with the wing panels flat on the board. Not exactly sure now all these years later but I think doing a rib count in the pics there were 3 more ribs allowing each wing panel to be completed flat on the board. Don't recall if we did the mod ourselves or was on the plan or was a suggested mod in a mag By us i meant a mate and I He also built one . He also did a Dixielander but I think from a plan not a kit Any how well done

The wings are now off the board and the LE root fairings have been added. Outlines of all parts have also been tidied with a razor plane.

Sanding will have to wait until I can cope with the dust and fuselage formers will be on hold until I can access my bandsaw or similar. In the meantime, the next job will be LE sheeting of both the tailplane and the wing.



I do like the shape of this model, lots of curves....which, of course, is why I chose it!

Slow but steady progress today. The tailplane upper front surface has been sheeted and the LE and TE have been rough planed to shape:

Progress now will be slow. I've cut the LE sheeting for the wing. I'm having to use a slow drying glue (aliphatic resin) to give time to coat the glued surfaces without the glue drying. So, with 6 panels to sheet, and with the drying time for the glue to be dry enough to remove the panels from the board at about 1 to 2 hours, I have up to 10 hours of drying time between start of sheeting and job complete. There's only about 2 hrs of actual modelling in that time though. Good job I have shopping, walking and admin to do today......

...and a slow job it was too, the final panel was fitted at 1930 BST this evening!

Unfortunately not Tony. All I can do at the moment is rough plane and carve the wing. That'll be it until I can cope with sanding and am 'allowed' to access my band saw in the garage to cut the fuselage formers.

This one is now on hold. The fus and fin have not changed from the above pics, the current state of the wings and tailplane is pictured below. They've been planed, carved, and, where necessary, filled with either balsa or lightweight filler. Work should continue in early November.

Well, it's now early November and, at last, I'm allowed to lift and push things and, more importantly, operate machinery!

An hour or so of tidying in the garage exposed the band saw, disc sander, vice and electric drill. A half hour or so later I had several plywood formers cut to shape.....:



.....which allowed the fuselage sides to be joined. The bearers are dry fit only to align the holes.



Sanding has also progressed on the fus sides and flying surfaces. Pics of the latter should follow tomorrow.

Nice to see good old fashioned hardwood engine bearers.
And people grumble that engine mounts bolted to ply firewall break out!

I've never gad a firewall mount break out.

Not the mount itself but the complete firewall?

Not even the firewall Quorneng, but I know it has happened to other people though I just put that down to poor building.
