Victor Prototype for Rapier Rocket

In concert with the Mk2 Victor and Sea Vixen that I'm building in other threads, I've made a start on the prototype Victor this morning - I couldn't decide which one to build, so I'm doing both! They all look a bit 'samey' at the mo, but that should change as the build develop:

Yep, that's quarter (C) grain. I would prefer to use A or B grain for the fus and C grain for the wings and tailplane, but that's all I had in the store that was unwarped and of the right density (6 lb/cu ft). The light weight was more important to me at the time than the grain.

Wings and tailplane halves have been joined, fin and fairing has been joined to the fuselage and parts sanded.





Filling and colouring next, which will be completed before assembly.

The model was filled and sanded a month or so back and became the fifth project on today's stay painting list. She's been given an all-over coat of silver, next up will be the black on the fuselage once the silver is fully dry.

I'm woking hard on preparing models for the Peterborough Flying Aces meeting this weekend, and this one is top of the list. I've added the black, drawn on a few panel lines, cut the rudder and ailerons and assembled the basic model.

Today's job was CADding, plotting, cutting and sticking. All it needs now is a motor and some testing...but that will have to wait until tomorrow..

I had a bit of difficulty trimming this on at the Peterborough Club's Flying Aces meeting. to be fair to the model, the conditions were blustery and not at all ideal. It scored well in static, but on the one scoring flight it achieved, it was undulating in roll and pitch with a steep dive at the end. The final score put it in 6th position.

Squirrelnet took a video of one of the trimming flights which I'd be grateful for him to post on this thread. The first arrival on the video was not uncharacteristic and at the end of the session, the final result of a damaged nose and fuselage was inevitable!

I thought it was looking good in the early flights after a bit of trimming work. The conditions were very blustery though.

This one is now repaired in preparation for Old Warden this weekend. I've also made up a serviceable igniter from two unserviceable items....so there's no further excuses!
