VMC Sopwith Triplane

The latest from the VMC skunkworks...

The span is 18" and this prototype weighs 38g and test glides have indicated around 8g of noseweight. So we at are talking 46g sans rubber, but with plenty of wing area to hold it all up.

The tail plane is the later type, thus the same as the one at Old Wardon (Dixie)

The picture were taken before I added the gun and finished off some of the other little details.

If it flies as well as it looks, it'll be a cracker. I've just bought the Camel and sent it to my brother for his birthday.

It is the standard plastic prop, made to look like wood, using a base colour then very thin paint lightly brushed over. I usually use water based paints for this.

Well this flew pretty well much of the board which is pleasing. As is my usual M.O. I put in a fairly tame and short motor to begin with. The first clip is a flight caught by Pete Fardell on my phone, before I added a smidge more nose weight which helped reduce the stall-iness a bit as per the second flight that Pete took himself. I think that it is turning on torque a little too, but I was happy enough to see that it has no nasty tendencies and nothing fundamentally wrong is going on...

Opening out the turn and a more aggressive motor should see a better duration and altitude. I will save that for another day...
