Morning Aviators! Thought I'd post this little taster of the PBY on its first outing.... sadly the camera battery runs out so you don't see me struggling to take off!! I think it will involve learning a technique... I was just about to take off when starboard sponson caught the water and spun the boat round big stylee, ripping the float free. I retrieved it ok. I've now shortened the sponson length slightly... waiting for the wind to drop now. The lake is the same water featured in 'FPV Calceby Nature reserve'...surrounded by trees...tricky.

Happy New Year!

i read some where that with the full size ones, they would make a wake first then go through it to help brake sticion by hitting the wave head on.

I hope you have fun. I really enjoy waterplanes. You will likely find that a good going ripple helps you take off

Have a nice Day, unless I don't like you.

Cheers guys... been watching all the Catalina vids I can find.. definitely not straightforward...unlike the Beaver which is a breeze. No flaps on a Cat. ... no flying days on the horizon...

A Cat flies so slowly in the first place that flaps, and a light breeze, would have it reversing to the horizon!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!
