Pair of comedy shorts on the water. Wet Beaver!

Here's a little 'Mod' I've been trying out. My (VMAR or Hobby King ) size .46 size Kenmore Air DHC-2 Beaver mounted on Hobby King Floats for .20 to .60 size aircraft. The floats have a beautiful finnish. However mounting them is problematic as the hard mounting inserts are pretty short and in a peculiar position on the float. For example, the Kenmore Air Beaver is factory fitted with float mounts that don't correspond with the float mounting points by a country mile. I decided to retro fit hard mounts (2mm ply ) on the exterior of the floats using epoxy then screwing them down dropping epoxy in the drill holes before screwing down. This seems to have produced a strong rigid structure. I added some guy lines as there seem to be some concerns with the strength of the strut frame. 8 cable mounts were provided with the kit .... very generous, however as they all broke whilst being screwed in I too felt a bit screwed.... when the final 2 broke within seconds of being launched... I was screwed! Left without steering I figured I'd give take off a go.... below are the results.

...Ah...just this one for now as the first attempt seems to have disappeared. It was very calm & rudder broken... but as soon as I got home I got out a saw and cut a pair of flaps out of the wing.... maybe just give enough lift..... & 6 cell instead of 4??

A slight ripple and a little oncoming wind and it would likely have managed it. A bit more power,, no probs I think

Although in theory a sea plane can simply 'fly off' the water in marginal conditions it is not unknown to have to 'haul it off'. In other words get it 'unstuck' at the absolute minimum speed even if it then means just skimming the surface until the speed builds up.
There is a lot technology to get the right float V angle, planing angle, step position and step depth, however in most cases just having more power will fix it!

You could always pretend it was a boat Jonesie, in fact it makes a great boat, just take the wings off

another method (if space permits) is to taxi in a big circle before the take off run so you cross your own wake, that breaks the suction between float and water.
