radio control dangers eg, lipos and ic

im going to start this post about the dangers of lipos and ic engines. eg starting ic planes and charging lipos.

the first one is charging always keep an eye on them while charging or this will happen

the next one not for kiddies to watch the dangers of props to hand's and other body parts

As you see by posting these, model plane's are not toys. yes it is great to see young people wanting to get into the hobby but there is a lot of dangers, eg batteries,props and of course the models too

Wow I didn't realise how violent a lipo pack setting on fire was, even more amazing is how that liposack contains it so well.

Only ever had one go bang, but it is frightening. A couple of years ago, I was flying an
Xtra 260 of about 56 inch span , which due to an error in installation went out f control at about 100 ft heading towards me, full chat in a slight dive. It piled in about 20 ft away from me, and i remember seeing the lipo shoot into the air with a loud bang as the first cell exploded. As it hit the floor, the second one went off closely followed by the other two cells. The smoke and flames were frightening , but the more frightening thing was the huge field full of ripe, dry wheat, just a few feet to my right.
I have always had the greatest respect for the power in a lipo ever since.

Hmmm the second video mentions the bloke was using a STEEL prop????? Steel props are totally banned down here!!

At all the club fields that I have visited I can guarantee at least one if not more person has set his LIPO charger up attached to his car battery hood open and unattended. Or a visitor allowed to smoke in the pits around fuel, no fire extinguisher near by. I believe this happens due to complacency it hasn't happened in that individuals past experience therefore it wont happen now. Famous last words "That never happened to me" now finish the sentance by saying "YET"

This is a good thread, it all too easy to get complacent when you have been doing it one way or the other for years and to a beginner who has heard stories and who needs to start researching the safest way to recharge them you guys sharing your experiences and safety tips is invaluable.

I have read up on people using tiles, trays, bags, sand bags, large boxes with sand in the lid etc how do you guys charge yours and where do you store them that is safe?
