Its strange the Southerner wasnt the easiest to get in the air and yet you took control of that one straight away,C of G must be wrong,tail heavy.

cog was spot on what it was supposed to be.

not enough welly i think.
but the tail is very weak at that point.

i will repair it once more, add more weight to the nose and give it one last shot.

then i will give up this flying lark and take up knitting.

tail is repaired for the last time.
need to re run all the snakes next, then do a bit of covering and we can try again.

if it busts this time i think a new fuselage from just behind the t/e of the wing back will be needed.
6mm square stringers on square formers and then a whole new tailplane.

it will fing fly.

oh yes.
i have done away with the tail wheel to shift a bit of weight forward.
moved the receiver to in front of the cog.
then i will weight the nose so its slightly nose heavy this time.

gonna give this game up i think.

Hmm - bad luck Tony. As you know I'm building a Senior Telemaster and I noticed quite a bit of lateral twist was inherent in the fuselage - the empennage wobbled around like a ducks bum as built from the plan which would introduce all sorts of interesting but unwanted characteristics. I had to modify my fuselage to stop it twisting up to 8 degrees either way! Don't know if that might be part of your problem as the two aircraft are substantially different in design. I notice you mentioned using stringers in your rebuild - just thought a caution might be called for, it's a long moment arm and twist could be introduced if you don't stiffen it laterally.

I have only had one telemaster, and an easier model I have yet to fly ME fly it, what a joke, it flew itself. And Grumps will be glad to know it had a Merco 61 up front. I hasten to add this was 20 yrs ago, before I saw the light.

We have discussed the prob on livechat, and a few ideas came up, but has anyone else any ideas please

I think your going in the right direction,I always start minr nose heavy and I almost never maiden one ,I seek advise as to the trimming and feel from an expert before I try myself gives me more confidence when its my turn,Just got fed up with flying repaired models.

A Merco 61 Garry? - ahhhhh - that must have been before you lost your reason and went to the dark side. I'm wondering about Tony's problem myself and one of the areas I've suggested he look at is potential flex in the fuselage. That could cause some unwanted control inputs to the empennage particularly on takeoff - vis - dropping a wingtip on lift off. The other area I'm wondering is if any one has had thoughts about the flaps - I don't know if Tony has used them on take off and if so how much. Thirdly I've heard that some builders of the Hobby Lobby version have had to increase rudder area as there is not enough rudder authority at low air speeds. Another member in my club has a Senior Telemaster built from the same plan source as mine - like you mention - it literally flies itself and is a dedicated floater! - the problem isn't taking off - it's getting the damn thing back on the ground again!

didnt use the flaps, was waiting till i had a couple of flights in before i tried them.

its first flight was fantastic, didnt need any trim and just flew perfectly until the battery shifted.

I honestly think i was just to timid with the throttle on the second flight and i stalled it.

the area round the trail is a weak spot and if i have to rebuilt the fuselage from the cabin area back it will be done like the hurricane with formers and stringers, then a non lifting tail can be fitted and we will have a telemaster hybrid.

just dont want to spend too much time fixing it as i have other things to build and fly.

The flexing of the rear of the fuz was discussed on live chat Grumps, and Tony was asked to try and see how much flex there was. The result was almost nil !

It is looking more and more like a lack of takeoff speed as Tony s reply suggested.

So he is being a girly when taking off sounds about right

Well i flew it again tonight.
full throttle on take off and half throttle once up to height.
flew ok, though i need to adjust the duel rates as low is too low.
landing was fun, glides for ever and ever.
had to force it down as i was running out of field.
down in one piece and nothing broken.
need to adjust the thrust line a bit, but that's all.

Congratulations mate,very well done,bet you enjored the flight and glad the lengthy landing worked out ok.
