A Depron Vulcan

well so far i have used 2 sheets of 6mm and 1/3 sheet of 3mm. at £2.50 a sheet it aint expensive.
B and Q light weight filler works fine.

working on the main fuselage profiles and wing center section today. (still waiting for shack parts)


i made a boo boo on the wing span, it will only be 79 inches by the time it is finished and not 80 like i planed.

How big is a sheet and where does it come from?

a sheet is 1250mm by 800mm.

i bought the grey 5 of each pack.

the glue is the expensive bit at £3.50 a tube. uhu por contact adhesive or you can use gorrila glue or foam safe cyno or even epoxy.

Alternate adhesive for Depron- try Pritt Power gel available from office supply shops, Smiths, Asda, etc.
Can't remember the price but sure it was cheaper than por.

Following on from my post above - On reading your link I see that 3mm depron is almost the same price as 6mm. some time ago I was building a model from 6mm and found that Ialso needed a small amount of 3mm, not wanting to pay the price asked for a small quantity I decided to try a system I had seen about ten years ago, It worked. some of you may have seen similar systems before but for others here is my

Having a need for 3mm depron and only got 6mm (B&Q) in stock I rigged my hot wire bow to slice the foam to the required thickness.
Using a piece of Melanine faced chipboard as a base two screws were fitted through the board into ‘t’ nuts near the edges and the wire passed across the base with the wire sitting in the screw head slots. The wire was tensioned with the weight of the bow hanging below the chipboard, power being from a standard car battery charger,
The required thickness was set by turning the screws in or out.
If using 6mm screws one turn gives 1mm adjustment, if finer adjustment is needed an extra slot in the screw head at 90 degrees to the original will allow adjustment in steps of 0.25mm.
Depron, EPS and EPP have all been sliced using this rig
The foam is fed onto the wire using another piece of chipboard faced with fine glasspaper held flat on top of the 6mm foam.

well i have been plodding on with the depron thing today.

cut out the plan shape for the middle section.



then i cut out the side proflie parts and had a sticky time.
added the fuselage top formers and cut off the inner wing sections.
made up the inner core for the fin and had a play.



then i tackled measuring out and cutting the main airofoil sections.


the plan is to fill in the gap between the ribs with shaped cross braces and then make up the jet outlets and inlets, then i can offer the wing up to the fuselage and work out the underside fuselage formers.
i hope to make them bridge the join to enable me to fix the wing center sections to the fuselage perminately.
need more glue now.

When I did the Bucc, I only used Por for the skinning for economy. FOr all the structural joints, like formers, ribs, cross braces etc, I used 5 minute PU wood glue from Toolstation. £10 for 750ml bottke of which I used a quarter. Great stuff, you use very very little, it's done in 5 mins and stronger for structural joints.

You can also use a glue gun for gluing all those formers and cross braces. Anything with a short span (too long and the glue goes hard before you reach the end of say a rib). Takes a little practise to get the 'feed the glue without melting the depron' rate correct, but it's a good alternative (and again, cheap!).

Building the whole thing with Por will work out way too expensive.

well i constructed the inner sections of the intakes and some of the braces today.
then i run out of glue.

Is there a reason why those braces are staggered?

I think its because it is not lined up at the front

they are the same on both sides, i just didn't line them up for the picture. oops.

It will be criminal to put a prop on this bird Tony, make it EDF PLEASE Nothing looks worse than a nice jet with a prop on it

nope, its having a pusher prop to keep it simple as it is an experiment.
