Hangar 9 Hellcat

Dave , as some of you know bought a Hellcat from Alan, and it was delivered to Dave at the Nats. After some discussion I volunteered to rig the model out, as it came as a bare airframe. When Dave came flying with me this week, we discussed the various ways, it could be done with electric power, rather than I/C which is was designed for .
On looking through my stock, I have I think all the necessary gear to do the job, which Dave will replace.
The supplied and fitted retracts were tested, and found to be working 100% after slight adjustment.
Today,I have installed the servos for elevator, rudder, and ailerons, complete with extension leads.

I shan't do any photos of this , as it is an installation on an ARTF model, but does keep Dave up to date on what is happening

There is no build or assemble, its simply a bare airframe, that is just being fitted out with gear, only actual assembly is screwing the canopy and cowl on, Dont get giddy guys

Ha ha , well one reason is this house does not own a camera, (private matter), and as Alan has pointed out I am only kitting out an assembled airframe, and it is something everyone does on a regular basis . However, unlike Tony, its a job I enjoy

Update on progress, and the answer is, not much. I wanted to mount the motor on threaded rod , as I did with the Pulse 125 but with the huge, length and width of the Hellcat cowl , the position of the 4 pieces of threaded rod would be a nightmare to sort, so plan B is in operation. Motor length is a required 55 mm from dummy radial fitted to cowl and so this then requires a 85 mm box to be made to fit on the firewall. The box is now being made. When this is fitted the motor can be moved about to get it in perfect position, and then bolted to the box. Unfortunately in my last post I said the aileron servos were fitted, which they were, but on checking them today , they work like flaps. Anyhow , an easy job to sort . Biggest prob will be lipo access , but until the motor and speed controller are fitted, havent a clue where the lipo will go as that will be used to balance the model . Making me use the grey matter, but enjoying myself immensely.

Canopy fitted, not glued , but screwed.
Wing finished, as servos now work as they should, not like inverted flaps .

Motor and ESC fitted, and motor turns the correct way, need to put watt meter on it to test. Cowl now fitted, as is the prop and domed nut which really sets it off

Next, I need to sort out the C of G and lay in a tray for lipo to be mounted on .

Discussed this at length with Dave, and we have both come to the same conclusion that the model is too good to start carving out a hatch for battery access, so this model will need to have the wing removed to change the lipo, but this is no big deal , and will retain its structural strength

Remove the structure underneath the cowl so the lipo can slide in, obviously, the underpan will be in the way, cut a slot in the pan to take the lipo, build a box into the pan so the lipo has somewere to sit, then screw a lid on, made from the pan,

Coarse, you can always just remove the wing, YAWN

Yes, considered that option Alan, but the model is too good to start butchering it , and the wing is removed in less than a minute
