When i was 10 / 11 years old i used to watch these birds way up high fly over Ancaster, the village i was born and grew up in, just one mile north of Barkston heath,
They had a very distinctive sound
and carried 36,000 gals of fuel
They could stay aloft for nearly 40 hours without refueling and all the engines ran on the same fuel
6, 28 cylinder engines turning 19 foot diameter three bladed props
And 4 jet engines to assist take off
A crew of about 15

A very distinctive sound.

To be expected with pusher props close to the wing but at least at the low prop revs it is a more 'mellow' sound.

It is Jimmy Stewart from a 1956 film 'The Stratton Story' about a prewar baseball pitcher who came good.
If you want to see a B36 up close here is Jimmy Stewart again in "Strategic air Commend"

I think you mean Captain Stewart or even Major Stewart by Jan 1944.

Found a piece of pipe today that just thr right size for the centre section of the fuselage, 150mm / 6" diameter

I suppose your thinking christ thats heavy, well im thinking of making a light weight fibre glass fuse for it, so the plug will have the pipe as the centre, the front and back sections ill carve from mdf
Just thinking at the moment
Its a make it up as i ho along joby

Wonders never cease, i made a start on the plug, cutting the MDF for the tail section

Looks like a lot of hard sanding to come
Think ill buy a mask for this one
