Puppeteer Build

I decided to build a Puppeteer from a very old plan that has been in our club archives for a long time. The plans are not in the best of condition as can be seen from the first photo. I was also guided by the fact that I had a spare cowl for one. I also found a set of wing ribs on E bay so that gave me extra encouragement.
I started with the fuselage but modified the firewall as I may fit an OS72 so needed to move the firewall back and maybe extend the nose slightly.
My thinking is that I will use the larger engine instead of church roof, I know it will be overpowered but thats what the left hand stick is for

Thanks I wondered why my photos were so small. Still finding my way around this forum so look out for more errors on the way.

Me too, the Puppeteer is on my list (long!) of planes to build. Watching this build with great interest.

I know the Puppeteer is not a true scale Pup but it already has a lengthened nose. I suspect if you make it much longer it might begin to look odd.
What people don't always realise is that the Le Rhone was not particularly heavy but that the rest of the Pup airframe was very light!

I agree that it will look odd if the fuselage is extended too much which is why I have set the firewall back 2cms and expect to only have to extend the nose by 1cm. I have built a scale pup and had to add a church roof and a battleship to get it to balance. This puppeteer is intended to just be a fly any time model not one the chose the best days for.

Casual acquaintance of mine has one with a ( I think?) os 52 in, no nose weight as far as I remember?
The full size weighed under 800lbs empty and as Simon has said most off The weight is in the engine, suggest you build the rear fuselage and tail as per the real thing ( in balsa obviously).

A bit more progress. Ive started the wings as you can see in the first photo I build on a 6mm glass plate that is positioned over the plan, the glass is covered with cling film so nothing sticks to it. Everything is kept in place by weights or masking tape. So far all has worked out well and Ive turned the plan over to start the next wing of three more. Making sure that I do not build two the same, been there done that.

I know it is a Puppeteer but that wing is oh so thick when compared to scale.

I have a set of plans for The DB pup comparing the wing profile of the two the puppeteer is quite a bit thicker. It was only ever intended as a look a like not true scale and is a compromise to improve its flying capabilities, I hope. I just like biplanes and wanted something to keep me occupied when not able to fly.
I have an old Tiger Moth that I will recover over the winter as another project.
