P1081 The 'straight through' swept wing Sea Hawk

I found this very period photo of the P1081.

Taken at what was then RAE Farnborough. Note the Stratocruiser G-ALSD and also the 1949 L type Vauxhall Wyvern!

Apart from a few 'in flight' publicity pictures, the Australian government had expressed an interest, there are not so many of it on the ground only to be expected given that it first flew in June 1950 and crashed killing Hawkers test pilot just 10 months later in April 1951.

It is at last virtually complete. Just need to position the battery for the CofG.

I am sure it produces enough thrust to fly well enough but it would undoubtedly do better on a 4s which will need a new ESC.

The big rear fuselage and the long duct have made the P1081 a bit 'porky' at 598g with an 1800 mAh 3s. That's nearly 20% heavier than the P1052 that has the same wings and tail plane. Its also about 15% heavier than the Sea Hawk yet all are made using exactly the same material.
P1081 does have a lower kV motor than P1052 so even on 4s it will only be drawing about the same amps, I hope!

Pretty calm this morning so the P1081 went for its maiden - it flies! Sorry no video.
A touch tail heavy, needed quite a bit of down trim, but the gyro kept everything under control.
I was very concerned by its weight but it actually has quite adequate thrust even on 3s and with the gyro on it flies silky smooth.
Battery will be moved forward 20 mm which should sort out the CofG. I will include a video - promise.

Grey but really calm this morning so as promised a video of its second flight.

Unfortunately a very pale blue overall colour scheme is not ideal against a uniform light grey overcast.
I have to admit the Lemon 'stab' receiver does a really good job of making my flying look super smooth.
It glides remarkably well too, note the 'go round' when it looked like I was going to have to walk some distance.
