A bigger Skyray

 had not found that supplier but its quite expensive to find out if they are the right quality. Some 2mm sold as Depron is very soft and flexible. I will investigate.
I can get decent A3 size 2mm true Depron sheets but it does rather limit the maximum size of a wing covering.

The new Skyray nose is more or less complete.. Just the cockpit to build up. The original canopy/battery hatch survived so will be incorporated.

Actually on purpose to allow a "structural" battery box to be installed which will add rigidity to the cockpit area.
Still a bit to go. .
   

The nose is on.
 
From now on whatever is needed has to go in through the cockpit aperture!

 

The cockpit fames go on and the 20A ESC with its heat sink inserted through the skin.
 
The battery box for the 1300mAh 4s is placed exactly where is was before matching a similar picture taken with the previous nose.
 
The box will have additional bracing once the position of the rx is established.
In RC terms it is a very simple installation. ESC with BEC, 2 servos, V tail mixer and the RX..
I can even do away with the V tail mixer if I can get the same level of response from the TX V tail option.       
 

the nose is now virtually complete. It just needs painting.
    
Slightly unusual the Skyray has two battery boxes.
 
It can be flown with either a 1000mAh 4s in the front box or a 1400mAh 4s at the rear.
The CG position is exactly the same with either battery.

Its now back to the Vought V173  to reorganise its servos and linkages.
Then there are two other planes that need attention to fly again as well as one that has never flown. 

I am mortified!!!!
Yesterday I flew the bigger Skyray as the weather at 5pm was really calm.
For some reason the Skyray is bound to both the DX6i and the Hobby King TX6i. Conscious that the HK DSMX can have issues I used the DX6i.
No problem with the launch the Skyray flew away nicely BUT what I did not realise was the ailerons on the DX6i were reversed. They were Ok on the TX6i but I still should have checked!
Anyway the result was yet another nose plant.
 
This will be the Skyray's third "nose rebuild"
Oh! well we live and learn or in my case not!

The Hunter will follow shortly but as the damage went back to the intakes the repair is rather more involved.
