Great Planes J3-ElectricCub Piper Cub. Kit Build.

my son has just bought me one of these for my birthday next month.

once it arrives i will start a build blog/ review of the model.

59" wingspan.

not sure of colour scheme or level of scale yet.

Seems everyone has a Piper Cub. This is my effort - the 76 inch wingspan, Paul Carlson designed J3. I bought the thing as a wreck at a flee market and completely rebuilt it. Had about 7 flights so far without wrecking it. Now all that's left to do is the scale detail. I must admit this is one of my (many) failings. I get the thing built and have to get it in the air. I always promise myself that I'm going to do the "fiddly bits" after it's test flown but the urge to fly it one more time before I end up crashing it keeps taking over and it's quite often several months before I finally get all the scale detail finished - then - sure as christ - I crash it on the very next flight!!!

The box has a bit of hanger rash but was still all sealed and intact.
It's a sturdy box and has some nice pictures on the sides showing the various stages of build.


Upon opening the box you are greeted with a well packaged collection of bits and pieces.
Every thing is there that you need to build the plane apart from servo's, motor and rc gear.
All the liteply is pre-cut as are all the balsa parts needed.
You are supplied with a full set of plans and a very detailed building manual.
The wire under carriage is pre-bent, so that saves a complicated job for the beginner.
It also comes with a full set of plastic moldings for the canopy, engine and wheels.
All in all a very complete kit and ready to go, glue will be needed though.



My first job now is to sit down with a coffee and the build manual and have a good read before glue touches wood.
