NYE JETS - JULY 11/12 2015 was created by Jamie
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A JMA MEMBER TO ATTEND THIS EVENT.

The NYE JETS kero burn has been organised to remember the legendary Peter Nye who sadly passed away on April 29 this year. Pete founded Fanjets which was the first manufacturer of ducted fan models in the UK and one of the very first in the world. Pete also organised many of the ducted fan meetngs at RAF Abingdon in the 80's and was present with his twin ducted fan Lightning at the very first ducted fan meeting at RAF Abingdon on June 27 1981.

The event will be taking place at Throckmorton airfield in Worcestershire (formerly RAF Pershore) on July 11/12 2015. This is NOT a JMA only event, it is open to anyone with a fixed wing turbine model, larger EDF or ICDF models. BMFA insurance or equivalent along with a B certificate will be required. There will not be any slotting, a maximum of 4 in the air at any one time, and models over 20 kg will be required to show their LMA certification. There will be provision for camping and more details will become available as they are confirmed.

A facebook page has been set up, just search 'Nye jets kero burn'

Entry list is now open, if you plan on attending then please download and follow the instructions on the form.

Duncan Horlor has done a cracking job of sorting out what was a rough sketch into something that looks much more professional. Stickers will be produced from this given to all attendees.

I really do like that logo picture. It's a brilliant idea and very well presented - wish I\'d thought of it first! :) :)

I wanted something that was very british and also an aircraft that pete had modelled and was very keen on and the 108 fitted those criteria nicely. I sketched a few ideas before deciding on this one. A friend of mine suggested the union jack instead of the vertical red, white and blue stripes. It has worked out much better with the union jack.

It hit the spot with me because:

- I am very pro-British
- One of this year's projects will be a free flight DH108 for Rapier rocket motor.
- The shape of the logo is very reminiscent of the paper aeroplanes I love to make for kids both young and old to play with.
- It's a good design: simple, effective with good balance and good strong colour. It'd make an excellent flying suit arm patch. If you changed the letters to DH-108, I could imagine DH-108 squadron pilots wearing one.

Anyway, enough of all that. Good luck with the event,
Andy

The mag cover is Pete Nye with his twin DF Lightning in 1981, the next picture was taken in the early 90's at RAF Kemble after it had been taken out of storage and modified with an OS91 and single fan. The airframe is now resident in Swindon and will not fly again as the airframe is quite old and fragile now.

It is important that ALL campers contact me with their arrival details and if they will be using a caravan or tent. Access will need to be arranged for all campers. There is water available on site from a tap by the office at the main gate, there will also be a portaloo for the duration of the weekend which will be situated by the airfield access gate by the parking area. There will be no access to the airfield before 1700 on Friday July 10.

Access over the weekend will be through the blue airfield gate on Long lane, a map giving details of the gate will be distributed nearer the time. There will also be someone on the gate checking people in, please remember that attendance at this event is pre booking only so do not turn up on the day as you will be refused entry. CUT OFF DATE FOR ENTRIES IS JULY 3.

Please remember that NYE jets is not a JMA event, all you require for entry is BMFA insurance and a B certificate. I have had a growing number of PM's from various forums for entry to this event. All entries/questions must be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. where your entry will be confirmed by a return email from myself.
Previous experience has shown that PM's are not the most reliable form of comms and i am keen to avoid any problems that could be generated by them.
It is important that entry is dealt with from a single point of contact to ensure all entries and documentation are recorded accurately so as we have a speedy start to the day on Saturday morning.

For info only, it would appear that the RCME/Greenacres event has had to be rescheduled and now clashes with this event . I cant see it affecting this event , hence the "info only"
