Eddie Riding - Buckminster 2018

The Eddie Riding got off to a great start at its new home at the BMFA centre at Buckminster with some nice models entered in the various classes .

The most disappointing entry was with the class for Eddie Riding designs. Just two turned up, Martin Pike with his newly finished ABC Robin and Bill Dennis with a diesel powered Fairchild Argus. In the end it was a very close contest with just 30 points out of 1300 separating them. Martins last flight with the Robin was near perfect. Bill won out in the end







The flying was great fun but very thermally active and bumpy air . We even had a dust devil that hit Monzs car next to me , it picked up the plastic picnic table she was winding her very impressive rubber Shackleton on and carried it up the field. Luckily it didn’t hit anyone . She managed to get the winder off the table but it suffered some damage so had to retire. Some loose wings and fuselages were sucked up too out of her open boot and one set of wings were seen climbing in the thermal on their own !!!

Anyway my first outdoor scale event needing full docs for static judging. The Bleriot caused much interest but after 6 flights failed to do a 20s qually flight - 18 was the closest. DH60 faired much better doing 6 qualifying flights the last I was very pleased with as it cruised round in a large circuit and even seemed to flare for the landing. It was enough for 2nd in the E Riding power scale and a silver award. Very happy bunny

Remember many years ago at Epsom Downs flying F/F. A little dust devil came through - guy a few yards away flying rubber duration - tailplane lying on top of his model box - the devil took it away and it vanished upwards - only model he had with him.

Well done to you once more. Hard luck for Monz. A pity she had to retire .I'd love to know where she hides enough rubber to make her big models fly.
