GIANT SCALE VULCAN XH558 (ENGINE FIRE)

A fantastic weekend at the UK Large Model Associations 'jewel in the crown' event at Cosford. Highlight for me was always going to be seeing the giant Vulcan fly but to see Dave deal with an engine fire situation so calmly was unbelievable. More vids of other giant jet and fixed wing aircraft at this event coming soon...

I think his expression and leaning against the rail at the end said it all. Glad I caught that on camera.

Dave uses the benign stall of this model to get round tight corners, it all adds to the flight characteristics, i will find out what happened, and get back too you

new engines fitted, 1siezed up, fuel still being pumped, hot engine ignited it, at the moment the flames dissapeared is the point Dave closed all the engines down, they were spooling down on the continued landing circuit, from that moment, it wax a 157pound glider, its Daves birthday tomorow, i wish him well, i think he has had his present, dont you?

Wouldn't be hard to find out if you looked on the LMA website, which seems to be down at the moment. Any turbine can fail, even if they are brand new.......still waiting to hear about my brand new jetcat which has been sent back!!

Would be great to get involved in a big project like this. I would love to fly something that big one day but will never have the funds to build something like that on my own.

Just shows how well sorted the model is, the landing didn't look rushed at all. Glad to see there was no lasting damage as I've not seen this model fly yet.

Hmm the fuselage is in three bits Simon you do the nose ill do the tail and Tony can do the rest including the wings, mind he would have to wait for us to finish our bits before it could be put together

its was built from the worlds biggest commercial kit, if one wants one, one only needs to contact falcon just as a matter of interest, right from the very first flights we had with her at woodford, it was well sorted, it was an off the board model, for its weight, its more like a glider, it was flown in medium wind conditions, and Dave had to push her to get her down, its a pussycat,

And I know what engines they are.

But I'm saying nowt.
