Twinjet setup?

I managed to gain a Multiplex Twinjet a couple of days ago, it still has the old 480 size brushed motors fitted and a 18AMP ESC, what motors would i need if i went brushless?
I have seen a few single motor conversions, what motor would be suited for this?
Would the 18A ESC be ok for the single motor setup?
From what i gather it weighs about 2 1/2 lbs so was thinking about 300W would be about right?

As you can tell I am a complete electric newbie and properbly sound like a right thicko!!!

hi tim,

i don't have a twinjet, but i do fly a funjet with a brushless setup. The motor, a HiModel 283635 produces up to 400 watts and runs very smoothly. it needs a 40Amp ESC on a graupner CAM speed 4.7x4.7 prop. They are very lightweight at 50 grams. This setup was recommended by Yellowred. you could use 2 of these motors but as its brushless you'll need 2 ESCs. I don't know whether you'd need one large flight pack or two smaller ones. (I use a 3s 2200 25C pack) I am sure 800 Watts max would be plently of power, but the problem might be weight.

Now hold on Dean - I am not even an electric newbie and I respectfully insist on my right to retain the title of the right thickest in that category! But given that - there are a few extremely knowledgeable blokes on this forum who are more than capable of steering you in the right direction if you insist on joining those dreadful *lectric people. I shall steadfastly maintain my other title as well - "The Dinosaur of Diesel and glow stuff!!!

I reckon on 300Watts to be about right so if i had two motors would that be 150W for each?
How does the Kv rating effect the performance?

Work on 100 watts per pound weight.I converted a Twinstar to brushless.I used 2 esc and 1 battery,having put it together I gave it away and it still flies well.

I'd use a single 3700kv inrunner, 40esc, 4.5.x.4.5 prop to keep the weight down rather than a twin setup.

Yeh, A bit like me really.

No sorry to long ago,they were only small motors and esc,if I see the guy Ill find out he is a member of my club
