Had a problem the other day, I bought some ESCs' from Hobby King, I thought they were Towerpro, but when I came to program them, they refused to talk to my Futaba 6EX 2.4gig! I fiddled around a bit and failed miserably to program all 4 of them!
Then I noticed they were marked Towardpro, bloody clone industry!
Anyway, then I tried on JR 35meg TX, and no problems? At Phils insistance I hooked up a scope, (first find a power pack, then a probe!) Then discover that JR used channel 1 for throttle instead of channel 3, only 30mins there! In comparing the signals, I noticed that the JR pulse went much shorter at minimum throttle, it was about then that a light went on in my brain cell! Throttle cut! You must take the trim right down as far as it will go, otherwise the ESC won't listen to you!
I hope this helps someone in the future.

here is a good tool to programme a esc, and most or all esc require you to have the trottle trim as low as it will go.

You can indeed programme an ESC using the Tx but then again every manufacturer assigns different methods, beeps and sequence to do it.
Fortunately with a modest power set up the default settings are usually fine with only the motor brake needing to be set for a folding prop and that is normally assigned to the first option.
The cheap 'no name' ones are worst because their programme seems to vary depending on whose 'chip' has been built in!
The worst so far I have found had no less than 20 options and with no instruction!
So with the throttle stick at full it beeped once then twice then three times.... all the way to 20, that's a total of 210 beeps, and then it started all over again.
By trial and error I managed to find out what 3 of the options actually did but the rest seemed to do nothing until I came to one that stopped it working properly and I cant 'undo' it either!
Usually one of the options restores the factory default settings but if you don't know which one it is........
