Spektrum DX6i - is it me? was created by Quorneng
I have recently purchased a DX6i as my first proper 'computer' radio.
It is considered a good beginners radio in that it has facilities that will last a flyer for some time but for a novice the instructions that come with it 'leave a lot to be desired' and that is putting politely!

Yes it does tell you what features are there but with little explanation of how to get at them or why you might want to use them.
I suppose you can use the basic controls on the factory set up but if you want to adjust anything then you are into the full menu structure.

I now understand all the posts on the forums asking "How do I achieve this on my Spektrum?".

By comparison the instructions for my much simpler old Futaba 6ch are very detailed with 'step by step' guides.

And I also see why people fit the screen back light!

Still its a nice radio though.

A couple of hints on setting up Spektrum Tx's wouldn't go astray on here - I use Hitec & Futaba - which have good manuals - but a couple of our club members are struggling to sort the Spektrums out. I know they would be grateful to any one who has got the things sorted.

I still struggle with my Spectrum DX and the JR 11x is no better as far as instructions, but im useless with computers anyway, so yes a good thread on them would be most welcome
Still have not got the SR71 set up yet :S :S :S

I can't master the obscure programming for the Spekky, either. The Futaba - no problem.
I've had to re-write the instructions for changing models, on the Spekky, because it is so obscure.

Garry & Eric mucked in together & bought me a Dx6i ... I think the least I can do is give a full report on it.
Right, fire away, I think it's great & I'll answer any questions,
First impressions of it are great...... but let's put it to the test & see what we turn up.
Fire away with the questions.

I just own the forum .... you guys make it great thanks.

i have Garry's old dx6i
model change over is simple, easy peasy.
turn on the tx
press down and release the scroll wheel.
scroll to change model
press it again
scroll through the model list
press again
it will now down load all the data for that model.
scroll back up to list
press once more and you have changed models.

sounds harder than it is.

On behalf of BB, who keeps different hours to us - how do you programme mixers - ie elevons, crow brakes, etc.

you asked about how you change a model. Not quite, Tony, I said I'd had to rewrite the instructions on how to - I can do that bit, now!
Like you, I've never needed mixers, so I haven't bothered trying to figure it out, but BB was saying he can't sort it, for his SR71.

I've got the DX6i and I love it.
I don't use most of the features as my kind of flying doesn't need them,( I learnt on very basic 27mhz kit that didn't even have rate switches) and if you wanted to use the same trannie for multiple models you had to adjust the quick links on the models to get the trims centered.
Binding new receivers is child's play and model selection is just as easy, I do like the fact that it remembers all your trim settings for each model.

TBH, I don't think the menus look that difficult to work through, the scroll and click navigation is very easy to use.
