DX 7 conversion

Being a self taught flyer, as quite a few peeps know on here, I prefer to fly mode 4 , even though I CAN fly mode 2. I fly with a DX 7 and flying mode 4 does limit the functions that the TX offers.

So I brought the matter up one night in live chat, and Pol, who used to mend CB s in their hey day for a living said he couldnt see any problem converting it, and quite honestly neither could I , except my soldering skills are not up to such a task.

Ok , I thought, lets contact HH and see if they think it is feasible. Their answer arrive by email today, and they said that they could only see one way of flying mode 4 with a DX 7, and that was to put the rudder servo in the airolon socket and vice vesa. I wonder where they got that idea from . I have been doing that since I got the TX !!!!, but they did point out that a lot of the features the TX offers couldnt be used . I told them that in MY email, I do wish peeps would read things before replying

However, they did add that the DX 9 could be programmed to any of the 4 modes, and suggested that it may be an idea to look in that direction.

This HAD occurred to me earlier, and maybe there may be a used but perfect DX 7 going on ebay soon.

the DX9 is a very very nice bit of kit, but i dont think the new ones will support spekky recievers,

From the description that Spekky put out about the DX 9, it supports and operates all DSM 2 and DSMX RX s, and also this includes the "orange" ones. I am under the impression that all my RX s are DSM 2 but will check before I think of getting a DX 9 TX

Ha ha , so do I Stephen, otherwise I stay as I am. I have emailed HH asking about the compatibility of the RX s I have , so their reply tells me which way to jump

My understanding is that most DSMX tx will also support DSM2 but when operating as such it no longer gives the benefits of DSMX so you could get interference in a very busy (20+ in the air) environment.

Thanks for that heads up Q. Must admit that was something that hadn't occurred to me . Maybe something else I need to check with HH

Gary, do you want to make me an offer for my DX8 with lipo installed, unused original AR8000 and telemetry stuff? DSM2 and X compatible, modes 1-4 compatible too (though I think a spring may need switching). Recently fixed by HH (gimbals and rf board), but I've switched to Taranis now. Sorry I never got round to doing a stock take, but I also have a load of other speccy (and orange) Rx's too if anyone's interested?
