Strange set up...

Here is a strange one, or maybe not and it's just my limited knowledge that's showing!! lol

I have a Glens Cap 232 that I bought from a friend, who I am no longer in touch with as he moved overseas. I have finally got round to getting it flying! (after a painful school holiday period!) Anyway..

It has a Zenoah petrol engine, 26cc I am sure. Buried away in the wiring is a rubycon 10v 4700uF capacitor (?). This is connected into the wiring to a voltage monitor (I assume its a voltmeter - a series of LED's red, yellow, yellow, green, green) on the fuz and a plug coming from the wire between the capacitor and the LED's going to AUX2 on a AR7000.

Any ideas why it is set up like that? Can I remove it. I am upgrading to use a 2S li po.

Just a guess, & I'm not familiar at all with spark ignition engines, but I'd say the capacitor. is an attempt to smooth out any "spikes" that may appear on the supply rail as a result of the engine sparking... or does that engine have its own magneto type system.
A capacitor across the rails would also smooth out any RF interference caused by a spark, but a small disc ceramic cap would be better at that than a big smoothing cap.
If the battery is mounted a distance away from the RX, a smoothing cap may help sooth out any voltage spikes there, but either way, it sounds like an attempt to stop any interference on the voltage supply.

My guess is that capacitor provides protection to the LEDs from any voltage spikes that might be generated by the ignition circuit. Probably best to leave it in.

It's also not unknown to fit a capacitor on spectrum gear to help prevent brown out
